Chess Opening Traps Be Like... (Parody)
Hey guys! I found three awesome opening traps for White!!!!!!!!!!!
OK, OK. Terrible sarcasm aside, I am trying to make a point here.
Recently, I feel that all the so-called 'opening traps' I see either go one of three ways:
1. As in the first example, they feature moves that nobody ever plays. What's the point of learning a trap after 1. e4 b5?
2. As in the second example (though I did exaggerate it), they go way too deep into theory. The moves are being played, but what if we learn a trap ten moves into the Ruy Lopez and our opponent answers 1. e4 with the Sicilian Defense?
3. As in the third example, the trap is so ridiculously unsound that anyone over 1000 can refute it within ten seconds.
So in order to make up for possibly scamming you (I wonder if someone actually clicked this hoping to see a real opening trap!) here is an interesting line in the Alekhine: Scandinavian.
The above trap meets the criteria of a trap.
1. It is not excessively common, like the various Englund Traps or the BS Gambit.
2. It is not a horrible move, it is only +0.8 for White and that is only if White plays Kd2 in a Stockfish line.
3. It doesn't transpire after the dumbest moves possible. After 4... Qxd5, White, who cannot play Nc3, might play d4 and Nf3. It's possible.
So that concludes my sarcastic blog post on opening traps. To chess trap YouTubers: do better.
Here's a short link compilation to YouTube videos, if you don't believe me in that chess trap YouTubers are this bad.
