The Key to Getting Your Puzzle Rating Up, Up, UP!
Yes! A blog about getting your puzzle rating up!! ![]()
So, let's start! Solving puzzles is just like playing a game of chess, but there is a position that is already set up for you. All you need to do is find the best move! How do you find the best move though?
Here are a few tips on finding the best move:
- Look at the whole board (Yes, this is very important. If you only look at one section of the board, you won't see all the possible moves.)
- "If you find a good move, look for a better one" (Don't just find a move and play it. Instead, try to look for better moves. They will lead to better results!)
- Think through every move (This can help you determine weather you made a good move or not. Think about what your opponent might do after you made that move, and the next move, and the next move!)
- Remind yourself about things you've learned before (Try to think about different checkmating patterns or tactics when you are making a move. You might be able to use one of them.)
- Practice, practice, practice!! (Don't be afraid to make a mistake, that's how you learn! The more you practice, the better you'll be at finding the best move.)
That's all I can think of right now, but did you notice that all of those tips I mentioned could also be used when you are playing games! That's right! Puzzles are there to help you get better at playing games, and the more you do those puzzles, the better you will be at your chess games!
Now, here are a few puzzles I made up:
