Another Armageddon?
For the second match in a row, Magnus Carlsen was tested to the maximum, this time by the French #1 Maxime Vachier-Lagrave.
Magnus had a relatively smooth day 1, just like in his match against Dubov. First he struck a blow to the Grunfeld.
Fairly smooth from the World Champion and despite a slight mishap in a mating technique he managed to take advantage of some MVL errors to secure an easy day 1 victory.
MVL needed a bounceback on day 2. The first two games ended in a draw but then Magnus blundered horribly in the 3rd game.
This was followed up by a mouseslip in the next game!!
So it was time for a blitz tiebreak. Magnus went for another anti-Grunfeld this time around, removing Queen off the board.
Could MVL bounce back from this and force the Armageddon?
And again, Armageddon it was!
A hard fought match and now we get the same final as in the Skilling Open. Will Magnus get revenge or will the inform Wesley So get another win on the Champions Tour?
