It is the 100th anniversary of the birth of the great actress Maureen O'Hara, nee Fitzsimmons. Born in Ranelagh and raised in Churchtown, Dublin she became hugely popular world-wide, with a Star on the Hollwood Walk of Fame in 1960, Fellowship of the British Film Institute in 1993, an Irish Lifetime Achievement Award in 2004, and an honorary Oscar in 2015, the year she passed away aged 95. Starting at the Abbey Theatre in Dublin, she was spotted by Charles Laughton and he propelled her to stardom in Jamaica Inn and The Hunchback of Notre Dame in 1939.
