FYI all. I am currently in the process of working with TD's from other clubs to set up a few new tournaments ( a Vote Chess, Up and comer tournament and 1-2 Open team matches ). I will also be setting up our internal Ladder tournament in the next few days. Looking forward to good member participation in each :)

Hi @CruiseShip. Everyone can look at a club's member list and sort by ratings, who is/is not online, most active, least active etc. Admins/SA's will also be able to sort a few other options one of which is closed accounts.

As an example there are over 400 members whose accounts are currently closed ;)

@All Spring Cleaning Announcement. You may notice a change in the club member count, this is due to activity that started at the beginning of the year and will conclude with the current Spring Cleaning :). We are removing all users whose accounts are listed as closed and/or those whom have not logged on in the past year in order to have a true picture of the active members in our club. Some clubs like to show huge member counts; but, what is really meaningful are the active members :)

Please have a look through the club's Voting Chess Rules/Protocol https://www.chess.com/clubs/forum/view/vote-chess-protocol-1 so that you are aware of how we conduct each turn :). Looking forward to seeing you there :)

team member's ideas, strong points on each end, weak points on each end, laying out different approaches/plans and outlining possibilities of each and of course opinions on the idea presented. It is amazingly valuable and sometimes the best ideas come from lower rated players ( who see things that others miss ). We are currently finishing up our VC match against Magnus Chess Corner but there is still plenty of game left. I invite all to join in to participate and/or follow along.

Hi All OSG'ers. I hope everyone is keeping safe :). I just wanted to drop everyone a note to invite all members to join in our club Vote Chess Matches. When I first joined chess.com I did not care for Vote Chess; but, as I progressed in my learning/game play I realized that it is one of the MOST VALUABLE LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES on chess.com. In a well run Vote Chess team, you have a range of players from under 1000 to 2000+ and for each move you see typed out for all to see/learn from the ...

Please do not engage in any questionable activity in your club related activities, it's not worth it and not in the spirit of the study group. If you do the work the improvement will come and you will truly appreciate it when you worked for and earned it :). Stay safe all ...Study on :)

@All. It appears that one of our longtime members "@alelca" has had his chess.com account closed for fair play. While I am not aware of the criteria for chess.com taking this step, I do know that there is an appeal process and I am hoping that this is a mistake. However, I wanted to take this moment to remind all members that we are all here to learn and chess.com and our club policy is improvement by hard work and effort and fair play and good sportsmanship ALWAYS.

I would also add that a bad forcing move could be a move where you force an opponents piece from a bad square to much better square say a knight that was misplaced, and you forced it to an outpost where it could not be disloged.

Sorry for the wordy response. Please let me know if it helps. Perhaps some of our many sages here can give you a clearer example or perhaps I can post a diagram giving a few examples ( picture is worth a thousand words ) :)

example. You give check on the king with your queen but you in doing so you place your queen on a square were it can be captured by a pawn and the resulting position does not benefit you.

Usually if all goes well and you are seeing and executing well in your game, you would only make a forcing move that benefits you; however, if it possible to make a mistake and make a forcing move that leaves you in a worse position/you opponent better off.

A forcing move is a move that you or your opponent makes that forces a specific response move ( i.e. you give a check on your opponent and they "have to make one or more specific moves to get out of check ...they have no other choice )
