Our man malko has drawn first Spartan blood! His opponent resigned.

Who would you say was the most famous Athenian? (and what were they famous for?) How is it that we never hear of these ancients playing chess?
This Team challenge has just come in. The Nicaraguans are looking for a warm-up before they take on their MAIN OPPONENTS - whoever that might be! They are our size of group - and are looking for a team of 4 .. 6. Anyone got any idea where Nicaragua is? I don't want to have to travel too far for the away fixture. Does about one Team Match a week fit in with everyone's schedule?
The observant among you will have noticed that a 2nd Team Match is looming: "Serious but not THAT serious". However, the gauntlet has been picked up by "Chess Unlimited" - who look, on the surface, to be quite serious competition. We will have to rely on our wits, and on our 'only sometimes say "die"' philosophy to see us through. Remember our motto! (If anyone does remember our motto, be sure to let the rest of us know).
While we're waiting for reports of victory to come in (and we may have quite a long time to wait!), we can put the time to use developing the Chess Athenians new range of mottos. Here's an initial stab (which is what the Spartans should be feeling): 1. Resigned to our Fate.
These are the current group settings: Play Team Vote Chess? No Yes Play Team Matches? No Yes Anyone can join? No Yes Public Forum? No Yes Public Notes? No Yes Public News? No Yes Public Events? No Yes Public Photos? No Yes (NOTE: Any features below made "Public" will be viewable by anyone, but only group members will be able to contribute.) The Vote Chess and the Team Match options are the most interesting. Set to NO, it prevents any other group challenging us automatically. (I set these up BEFORE I knew what they meant!) Any thoughts?
The Spartans have gamely sent only 5 representatives - rather than 300 - for a showdown (Team Chess style!) Are there 5 Athenians ready to stand up and be counted? If you're in, just accept the Team Challenge. (I have no idea how these things work!) ArtFizz
Anyone who seriously thinks they should be in this group - shouldn't be. We are the group that CAN RESIGN - "any time, any place any where". Our nemesis - the Chess-Spartans - are rumbling for a Vote Chess show-down. I've never done this, so I haven't a clue about it. Anyone in favour, say: "Aye!". Any Other Business?
