Note
This is a game that requires knowledge of a lot of tactics. Usually, you can move a piece to put your teammate in a check. The opposing zombie MUST block the check himself or the taboo rule is violated. If it cannot, then it is said to be a stalemate, which in this case is a loss. However, other stalemates can occur if you don’t save your teammate from a trap in the top corners, or give him enough space near you, or let your other pieces get captured. Finally, aside from stalemates, there is a hill at the top that lies beyond two pawns on the 12th rank. To win by KotH, you have to get rid of the opposing non-zombie’s pawn and make sure the opposing zombie cannot also use that fatal capture to reach the hill. One key idea is to try and get your queen and dragon bishop located near your opponent’s half safely so those pieces can come back later to trap the opponent’s teammate’s amazon with the Fatal Capture rule. You may also notice that Blue has a dragon bishop for Green’s queen. However, Blue’s dragon bishop has more mobility at the start to compensate for this material imbalances. There are two promotion options: a grasshopper, which may be used for trying to attain a King of the Hill win, and a queen, which can be used for trying to stalemate players. Finally, “Sour Apple” refers to the one-amazon zombies, which your teammatemay help you out, but only rarely (the “sour” part of the apple). In earlier versions I tried different sergeant arrangements, but there was more chance that a sergeant could get stuck.
