Can we learn from the new star, world chess challenger Gukesh , 17 years old ?
of course we can
rather than putting a very long analysis of all his Toronto games, lets take a quick and instructive look at how he played with Black against Abasov
on move 4, he played h7-h6 a very rare move.
What is the point ? 1) get out of theory as soon as possible 2) avoid the annoying Bg5
here's what would be a normal "theory", known "line"
____________________________________________________________________________________
but later on, Gukesh revelated another use of the move 4..h7-h6
The knight on f6 will be attacked by e4-e5, so Nf6-h7 is possible.
but why retreat the knight ?
well the knight will go back to g5
a PICTURE is WORTH a thousand WORDS !!
What can we learn from Gukesh ? Castling right away is not always needed.
you are allowed to move a piece several times if you have a purpose.
You can replay the entire game, but sometimes its good to focus on one part as opposed to study every move, which may be long and not necessarily useful.
DO YOU AGREE ??
Is there another Gukesh Game you saw which you liked ?
Feel free to post !
