common mistake. play , play , play. of course practice is important but repeating the same mistakes is counterproductive. I will show a real life example, my own game. and a loss at that. You won't see a lot of folks doing that but reality is that losing games is part of chess, at any level. even @magnuscarlsen lost on time against @Hikaru and he shouldn't have. VERY IMPORTANT, first look at your game without any engine, try to figure out the mistakes and what would have been the way to go. you should determine which moments are important. it is not useful to spend 10 minutes on each move, unless you have all day to do that I am playing white here. My opponent is rated 2487. more or less around my rating. my plan is simple Bh6 to exchange the bishop on g7 and launch my attack. lets continue Black just played d6-d5! so here already something went wrong for me. I am nowhere near h4-h5-h6 even though I exchange the dark squares bishop. My opponent reacts in the center and my king is on e1. game is not ever but I need to be ca eventually we got here white to play Iwent wrong and l lost, ________________________________________________________ --------------------------- evenutally I switch the engine one and see what I should have done in the opening the arrows point to the right plan. no time to launch a fierce attack. white needed to tkae on e5, then Be2 and 0-0 I got punshed for my simpliistic attacking plan. andlater one on last position I need to find Ng6+ which the computer points out as last chance to survive. hopefully this all makes snes HERE"S THE FULL GAME https://www.chess.com/game/live/91720215291

Hello all Black to play, from a game I played recently it looks like White wasn't familiar with this set-up. Black has not castled and is setting up a trap against the white king. Castling quickly is not ALWAYS a way to put your king to safety. Solution to the diagram and exact move order for Black in the sicilian See below !

quick tip on tactics. Tactics come in different shape and sizes. Sometimes you need to calculate several moves and variations, true; but sometimes a 1-move KNOCK-OUT IS ALL YOU NEED in the next positions, the MOVE MAY NOT BE OBVIOUS, but in EVERY CASE it PROMPTED RESIGNATION ON THE SPOT. my friendly tip, look at all "candidate" moves, all checks ,captures and threats ! sometimes, even lose the queen on purpose or offer a pawn for free and then the opponent can only resign ! POSITION #1WHITE TO PLAY AND WIN . Interestingly the player with the black pieces is HANS NIEMANN, yes the famous/infamous GM Solutions posted at the bottom of the post. POSITION #2 : BLACK TO WIN . Hint ( its a crazy position, but there's an insane move which prompted White to throw in the towel. This was a rapid game played in Doha) POSITION #3 played by the famous streamer/commentator Daniel Naroditsky @DanielNaroditsky White to play . HINT: Many moves seems to win. There are obvious candidates. but not all ways lead to Rome as they say ! White is down a ROOK but is looking to capitalize on the ATTACK !! GM Naroditsky found the move which has the greatest impact and resulted in Black resigning on the spot. His move was confirmed by Stockfish as the best one in the position ( other moves may win but will take longer). __________________________________________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________________________________ SOLUTIONS __________________________ _________________________ Position 1: the simple g4! wins. g4! attacks the queen and the queen can take on g4. but then White plays Qh6 with checkmate on g7 Position 2: Black played the insane move ..Qh3!! and if White takes the queen Rg6+ comes in. Position 3: Qxg6 comes to mind but Black has ..Ne5; Ne6 is a fork but Qe7 and Black continues Naroditsky played 1Bc4+ and the check on the a2-g8 diagonal is deadly. if Kh8 Ng6# Did you find them all ? Well done

Lets explore a recipe GMs use to win quickly with Black First the positions , then the actual moves and games. Position 1 : White develops Nf3,g3,Bg2 a KINGS INDIAN ATTACK system ok what is Black's Answer ? we want to exchange the bishop on g2. the quickest way to do is Qc8 and Bd7 which allows the move Bh3 seen in next position And last position, how do we win ? Black plays Ng4 with idea of Nxh2 as well as Ne3 with checkmate on g2. Now the entire game ___________________________________________________________________________________________ The GM with Black is Bortnyk but a tweak you may face is the following. What if White plays Re1 and on Bh3 retreats the bishop on h1. What if White avoids exchanging the light square bishop on g2. In the game above, I have analyzed how Black would still play h5-h4 to open up the h-file. but lets see another example by @hikaru Now I do not know if Magnus Carlsen plays this with Black, but @Hikaru does. As you can see, White tries to keep the bishop on the board. Did he survive against the GM ? not long. I'll put the game below so that you can see the idea from the Black side. Game was played in April 2024 ! _________________________________________________________________________________________________ let me know if you have ever used this idea or if you think you may give it a shot !
Is anyone in the club watching Hikaru on Stream, either Twitch or Kick ? and is anyone watching his Youtube Videos while he plays either blitz or bullet ? After all these years, @Hikaru remains a beast. You may or may not like his personality, but his results speak for themselves. I took a look at his Titled Tuesday games. Thats' because he plays for top places and for money, so he is unlikely to "throw" a game or be distracted by creating content. @Hikaru likes to win Titled Tuesday, so he brings his A-Game in that event. I took his last 50 games played at 3 Minutes + 1 second. The 1 second increments reduces games won/lost by "flagging" like in Bullet Brawl. The increment insures higher quality games. Even if I am down to 2 seconds and I have rook + king vs King, my opponents will resign with increment. I can convert. if no increment, players will try to save the draw as I will run out of time. @Hikaru is scoring 38 wins 7 draws and 5 losses with opponents averaging 2886 blitz rating. maybe @firouzja2003 can try to compete and end the domination ?

Hi all, Chess is a fun game and it deserves respect. Your opponent deserves respect, whether she is new to the game or a dedicated enthusiast. Rating or Titles exist but when a new game begins, one has to prove it. I played https://www.chess.com/member/christopheryoo yes this talented kid https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christopher_Yoo_(chess_player) now mr yoo is a GM who won Titled Tuesday. This is our game , 3 minutes rated blitz played April 30th https://www.chess.com/analysis/game/live/108274234667?tab=review ___________________________________________________________________________________________ This is a simple lesson, respect your opponent and respect the noble game of chess ! a quick post about Attacking the King. #GM means we will follow GrandMaster Technique. Then all of us will try to apply it in our own game. ATTACKING THE KING Let's keep it simple. There are three flavors. I. Kings castling same side II. Kings on opposite side III. Your King stays in the center. You attack fiercely ! ______________________________________________________________________________________________ Type I; I lets watch GM Navara, White to Play You should spend at least 5 minutes on the position. then compare your thinking and moves selection with what is written below. .. .. .. Spoiler Alert .. .. .. ok to attack the black king, we mean to bring maximum hit. 🔥🔥🔥 we also have a knight on e5 which is attacked. should we move our knight ? thats' our first intuition. but GM Navara decided to bring another piece into the attack. and just like Hikaru, we will use arrows. Here's the visual solution The knight on d2 comes to e4. Ne4! is what White played. This brings more fuel to the attack. But what if Black takes the knight on e5. Follow the arrow is my simple answer. Indeed Qxe6+ and White has a strong attack. Now you can replay how the game finished . II. What if Kings are on the opposite side ? simply put its a race. Each side usually tries to attack and the first one wins. The game I will show starts in the SICILIAN NAJDORF ok so who are the players ? top #GM level yes Magnus Carlsen attacks with white against Hikaru Nakamura in 2011 ! @magnuscarlsen vs @hikarunakamura over the board, before the chesscom era. lets see a few moves later Carlsen is launching his pawns with his last move h2-h4. Next moves he will his king to safety queenside. the exact moves are not so important. Position after 16 Kb1 and now we will soon the key position, White to Play. Remember, speed is of the essence WHITE TO PLAY ___________________________________________________________________________________ and now the visual image of the attack. , , , and here yes g5-g6 is an excellent way to break through. Magnus finished the attack very nicely ! . III. King in the center. We will leave this for another entry

I assume most of you in this club play blitz (and bullet). And while having white is fun, we also need to be ready with the black pieces. ok and what about Magnus Carlsen ? he plays titled tuesday and many blitz online. He is also many times world blitz chess champions. How does he play for a win with Black ? Well I recommend to read this entry https://www.chess.com/blog/thechesscorner64/magnus-openings-with-black-blitz-repertoire thank you @MagnusCarlsen

you can win so many points with the "double attack". a lot of tactics are linked to attacking two pieces at once. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________ the position above is simplified. the purpose is to really isolate what makes tactics click did you solve the puzzle above white to play ? if yes great. if not lets put a picture about the double attack then the first move is easy. 1 Qc8+ the king moves to h7. then with Qc2 you give check and attack the rook. Double Attack ! _____________________________________________________________________________________ How do you win with White in this opening ? . I am sure you spotted this one fast. its all about geometry. a loose piece is on e4, a double attack will win for white Qa4+ is the reason Black cannot gobble the e4 pawn __________________________________________________________________________________________ can you solve this one, White to play again ?

Can we learn from the new star, world chess challenger Gukesh , 17 years old ? of course we can rather than putting a very long analysis of all his Toronto games, lets take a quick and instructive look at how he played with Black against Abasov on move 4, he played h7-h6 a very rare move. What is the point ? 1) get out of theory as soon as possible 2) avoid the annoying Bg5 here's what would be a normal "theory", known "line" ____________________________________________________________________________________ but later on, Gukesh revelated another use of the move 4..h7-h6 The knight on f6 will be attacked by e4-e5, so Nf6-h7 is possible. but why retreat the knight ? well the knight will go back to g5 a PICTURE is WORTH a thousand WORDS !! What can we learn from Gukesh ? Castling right away is not always needed. you are allowed to move a piece several times if you have a purpose. You can replay the entire game, but sometimes its good to focus on one part as opposed to study every move, which may be long and not necessarily useful. DO YOU AGREE ?? Is there another Gukesh Game you saw which you liked ? Feel free to post !
