http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Achaea_(province) A senatorial province (Latin: provincia populi Romani, "province of the Roman people") was a Roman province during the Principate where the Roman Senate had the right to appoint the governor (proconsul). These provinces were away from the outer borders of the Roman Empire and free from the likelihood of rebellion, and so had few, if any, legionsstationed in them (thus lessening the chance the Senate might try to seize power from the Emperor). They were often along the Mediterranean Sea. The provinces were grouped into imperial provinces and senatorial provinces shortly after the accession of Augustus. In AD 14, the following provinces were senatorial provinces: Achaea Africa Asia Bithynia et Pontus Creta et Cyrenaica Cyprus Gallia Narbonensis Hispania Baetica Macedonia (Macedonia & Thessalia) Sicilia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Senatorial_province

I have gone down in the election for the new archon, so I'd like to say some things. I'd like to thank Archon Capt_Hook for creating the foum to save New Athens. I'd also like to thank Cokku and husky123 for their help, and to all who voted. These people have helped us through the dark times. I'd like to boo "Real Life" for capturing our former archon. But I hope Archon Capt_hook will be a good one. I am creating a news article about my new idea. The Ancient Olympics.

I put my self for offer in an election, where whoever wins is Archon, and promoted to admin if they are not.

Hello, shah was made super admin and removed many admins and made them members. Including me. He took over the group because the founder isn't active and shah made capt_hook admin. Please post your complaints to shah here.

Citizens, we have a crisis. Our archon is missing in action. Others have devised a way to get a new archon. Post your votes for who you want to be the new archon.

Our Archon Shah (member shahhussainkcl) has been missing for quite a while. His last login to chess.com was 29-Sep-2012. He used to be a very active member. We dare not speculate about what might have happened, but the question remains, what now? Dryan43 suggested we should perhaps plan a new Archon. I am in favour of this. If Shah should ever return we would be more than happy to give him his old position back, but until then, we need someone to replace him. We have a great thing going with the New Athens group, and even if the other tribes die out we must not allow New Athens to run the same fate. I already tried to discuss this with our current super admin, member jonathanstepney, but he does not respond to my messages. What do the rest of you think? My suggestion: 1) We nominate and vote for a new Archon, or at least someone to become a super admin in New Athens. We keep all the current admins and roles they way they are. 2) Then we go directly to chess.com and inform them that our super admin is no longer active and we want to assign a new super admin. (Jonathan will still remain the super admin. We just add another one.) 2.b) Councillors need administrative privileges, but the new super admin can take care of this. Shah talked about this right before he disappeared. 3) When this is done, we repeat this process for every tribe so that they can start running independently. I think it would be best if every tribe gets someone from within the tribe with enough admin privileges to start games and so forth. In the past Shah started all the battles, but this obviously cannot continue. 4) Finally, we get members to start advertising again so we can continue growing. We could do this on a rotational basis. More on this later. Please let me know what you think of this. Councillor of The Antiochis Tribe,Captain Hook.
I am passionate about keeping the New Athens group alive. We have a great thing going and we need to take charge, which is what I already started by contacting chess.com to replace our super admin jonathanstepney. I am currently a councillor of The Antiochis Tribe. Although I have never been an administrator of a group, I took increasingly more responsibilities since I joined New Athens, especially with the vote chess games. How I will run the group? I have less time on my hands than Shah did, so I will delegate many responsibilites to other members, especially my right-hand generals (and whatever other roles members had). I belief in shared responsibilities, rather than having everyone dependent on one Archon, as it was before. That was needed at the time to get New Athens started, but I belief we grew beyond that. In other words, the generals, councillors and other members will run the groups, according to their assigned roles. (This implies group admin privileges.) My role will be that of an overseer and an organizer, making sure the groups remain active and does not fall apart. My idea of a single Archon is much like the idea of having only one President or one Queen, but an active democracy and a cabinet of members taking care of important decisions. Personal Interest Shah's interest was the historical reenactment of classical New Athens. My interest is in Greek mythology: the poetic side rather than the historic side. Shah created many new groups. I will maintain the existing groups, or remove the dead groups which no longer serve a purpose. Archon or not, I am here to serve the group.
I need suggestions on what we can do in vote chess games to avercome early voters ruining the game. That is, people who vote without discussing, without reading the comments, or without even posting the move they are voting for. It really does not matter in the early game, but with more critical parts it could be the difference between winning and losing! Those of you partaking in vote chess will know what I am talking about. We almost ruined a recent game like that. I already have a few ideas, but I would appreciate input from other members. Thanks!
