Hi all, I'm a returning player, haven't played for 30 years. I'm spending most of my time doing puzzles and lessons but looking for people who want to play some 1 or 3 day games if anyone is interested. Also thinking about joining a Club, does anyone have a suggestion for a good club in Sheffield? (ideally south side - I live in South Anston). Thanks, Dan
Hi all, I just joined this online club - haven’t played club chess except a couple of games at Uni ~20 years ago. I have returned to chess the last couple of years thanks to this app. Now thinking of venturing out into the wide world to sit and play chess over the board. I haven’t ever really trained or studied chess formally - I tried reading some books but found it hard to learn that way. Anyone here playing with a local club? I am based in Dore so considering a visit to Ecclesall chess club as that’s nearest to me.
I really enjoyed the 2021 edition, so made a 2022 version here. It'll start on 28th February if it's not full before that. Invite Link: https://www.chess.com/tournament/team-sheffield-daily-tournament-2022/join/9f8b63

Here is a recently concluded game from the Team Sheffield Daily Championship in which Jordan wiped me off the board in 20 moves in great style. Well played mate, and my bruises are only just healing 😆 Proof if it were needed that if you play with courage and aggression higher rated players can be beaten. Play your game and show no fear!

Welcome to this forum on chess 960 for Team Sheffield. We have joined the WCL960 league which will begin around the start of May so Ian (@superdrewe53) suggested a forum for those with less experience of it to dicuss and ask questions etc - a cracking idea. So starting at the beginning, chess 960 (sometimes named Fischer Random after Bobby's endorsement of it as the future of chess) is so called because there are 960 possible starting positions. The pawns are the same, but all the other pieces are shuffled randomly on the back rank (the same for white and black). There are a couple of rules on piece placement, Kings must be between the 2 rooks and bishops must be on opposite colours. The point of this of course is to remove opening theory and to play fresh positions. The rules are the same, just use your pawns and pieces better than your opponent! To those new to it, I hope you enjoy and please feel free to post any questions you might have here.
