Increasing Participation in Matches

I know that this is very similar to a recent post made by @wormrose, but this relates specifically to daily matches. When a club that I run (Scary Ninjas:https://www.chess.com/club/scary-ninjas) first started out, we would be getting 30-40 players per match. Nowadays, we’re are usually getting 25, max. Note that this is with more players. This is disappointing, because before we would be getting so much players joining that we had to lock early so that the other team would have a chance, and yet after that, we would still be using half of the players that signed up, since the other team had so little. Now the sides have flipped, and for the worst, and we don’t know what to do. What strategies could we implement to get more participation? I’m sure that many other clubs have to same problem, and would be interested in this too. Thanks in advance, and Happy Holidays!

I think I see the problem, I only send out 8 PMs on average. The thing is, I get discouraged when I send out like 16, because only about 7/16 respond at all.

You need to show your players you really care about your club. And as owner/SA you should join every match if you can.

Do you post news?

I will definitely send more PMs. Yes, we do post news.

Yep, I make sure to do that if I’m not in the other club.

In general, the longer a member has been with a club, the more likely they are to go inactive.  Their lives change.  Their interests change.  You must constantly be bringing in new, enthusiastic members to replace those who go dormant.

How many news posts? Some members don't like too many of them

A few days before multiple matches start; we try to synchronize them to start around the same time.

I never thought about it like that; now that you mention it, I see that a lot of our older members don’t play as much anymore.

Yep, sometimes those who are high on the Top Player list haven't played a match in many months.

Thanks for the great advice, I’ve shared these ideas with the other admins.

It is also good to keep the wheel on turning.
