Too slow

Obviously, it’s dependent on the position.

If the guard already occupies a strong spot in the middle of the action, QBG will win, no? On the other hand, if the pawn structure is completely locked, the witch will probably prove more useful.

i think he means each piece is on the starting postion

if he does then guard

Ten pawns means it's early in the game. Guard is worth 3. I think the witch is more than 3 in the opening. QBW is about a pawn better if not more. (I think).

guard is worth 4

i think he means this

rook is guard, night is witch

imagine there being two more files

knight

I think I have to go with the witch here simply due to agility and the special powers.

How is a guard worth 4? The guard and knight both attack 8 squares. The knight moves faster, but there's a lot of hollow in its range. The guard moves slower, but attacks all adjacent squares.

In an endgame with no rooks, the king is usually better than the knight.

One thing to consider is the knight has less squares than the guard on average... consider a1... the knight has two squares, the guard three. Further, the guard can corner the knight, but the knight can't trap the guard.

One more thing... K+G vs K is a win for the guard, K+N vs K is a draw.

So I would rather have a guard than knight,

Knights are better in middlegame though.

As for Q+B+G vs Q+B+W, well the witch is good where there's ten pawns, but as those pawns start to trade off, the witch gets weaker and the guard gets stronger. With two pawns, I'd say the guard is winning, especially if the pawns are linked. With no pawns, it's either a win for the guard or a draw, probably a draw.
