I am playing in a Vote Chess game, and my team is struggling to get a draw. I have found a line that ends in an endgame that I think is drawn, but some of my team-mates disagree with me. Using a chess database, I have found a very similar position in a game between 2 GMs, which ended in a draw. Is it acceptable to mention this game to my colleagues, or would that violate the rules about outside help?

An option could be made available when a VC game is created allowing team members to submit candidate moves to a list. The name of the person suggesting the candidate could appear next to the move or be visible only to the group Super. Only moves on the candidate list would be eligible for voting. I believe this would completely eliminate secret/drive-by voting. Sample format below similar to the opinion polls on chess.com's main page. ________________________ Candidate (suggested by) --------------------------------- [ ] ...Nxc6 (member_A) [ ] ...bxc6 (member_B) [x] ...Qxf2# (wormrose) --------------------------------- [Submit Vote] [Submit New Candidate] ________________________

There must be some kind of bug related to the Vote Chess games you played in. For example, i participated in this game, and when it finished, i've quit the group. But it should appears here, what didn't happen! Below is a print screen of my current page of completed games: Also, i've noticed another particularity: In this page, that shows your current games, when you vote for a draw offer, or accept/reject draw, it is showed as the last ones as 'Already Voted!' even, if the votes are going to be called soon!

For example, in the first move of a standard game, there's just 2 votes: one of 1.e4 and the other for 1.d4. Let's suppose that 1.e4 was voted first. Then what move will be selected? And why?

Fly by Voters are such a big problem to those who want to discuss the game as it goes but they are very difficult to do anything about. There seems to be two kinds of VC players - those who want to discuss, etc. and those who wnt to treat it as a normal (usually blitz) game and let Chess.Com balnce things. So here is a proposal:-1. Remove the discussion ability from VC.2. Add a new type of game called 'Discussion Chess' which is identical to the current Vote Chess but no votes are allowed until 70% of the move time has elapsed.Does that solve everything? No, of course not, but it would be close (I think!)Steve

Probably the biggest problem in vote chess. What can admins do about it?

Several forums have already discussed the problems of Vote Chess. This topic will provide a list of links to those forums. Please submit any that you know of.
I decided to make navigation page for this group. It's notable that it would be good for group admins to categorize forums with forum topics (with possibility to add/remove topic names) to make a navigation page like this unnecessary for groups. I added some topics outside of this group as well. Anyway, on with the list. Intro: Vote Chess Help Center Advice and strategy discussion: After the game The Opponent's Archive Cheating in vote chess (see Cheating Forum) Safety votes? I'm just curious what teams usually or occasionally do after a vote chess game is finished. Do you look at your opponents archive? Do you discuss anything with the other group after the game? Do you discuss within the group about the game? Do you analyse the game within the group? Do you analyse the game with the other group? The reason I ask because this is something I think most teams are lacking. I think it would be great to analyse the game afterwards with both teams active. For example starting a forum and give the link in the public comments at the vote chess game might be a good idea. Anyone else think this is a good idea or do your team already analyse games with your opponents?

Corvidae_Corvus has made a group for leages listing (link). It includes both vote chess tournaments and team match tournaments. I will remain this post as it is, but you may need to go to that group for an updated list. As you probably already know there is no feature with vote chess tournaments on this site and it was on my list of Vote chess improvements to have it included. However, there are several groups that are making vote chess tournaments and I thought this forum should be used to discuss vote chess tournaments, advertise tournaments and have a list of groups that does vote chess tournaments. Here is the list of groups that manages vote chess tournaments: Vote Chess World Cup - a huge tournament for all the national teams, eg American Group, Team England, etc. They are currently playing their second season and a new season starts in january. Signup will begin in December. Vote Chess League Tournament - Open Swiss tournaments and invitational tournaments for the strongest vote chess teams and invitational tournaments for the strongest national teams. The Speed Vote Chess League Headquarters - runs tournaments at a time control of 10 minutes per move. CSC - Annually knockout tournaments. Open for teams with at least 5 completed Vote chess games and at least 2 admins World Cup of Chess Openings - Thematic tournaments. They have a pair of Vote Chess tournaments for groups devoted to specific openings or groups that play a lot of thematic games. TEGERMON VOTE CUP - Various tournaments started 2 years ago. Uncertain of activity Team Tournaments Indian Chess League The Hunger Games The Valentines Cup Animal Cup - Tournament for animal teams. If you know any more team that manages vote chess tournaments or know more about some team please post them here and I will update the list.
A new Vote Chess tournament called CSC 2013 will start at the beginning of the next year. CSC stands for Chess.com Super Cup and is a knockout tournament that will be played annually. The group that manages CSC is CSC and I will be the one responsible for CSC 2013. To register you have to join the CSC group and register your team here. Deadline for registration is January 1st. CSC 2013 will be about the same as CSC 2012 with some small changes that can be read at the bottom of this page. All games in each round will be played simultaneous with 2 days/move settings. A team will play a maximum of 4 games/round and the tournament will go on for several years. Approximated time is 3-5 years. The format is subject to change depending on participants, but it will look something like this. Qualifier round (if enough teams): All teams play 4 games. Top 32 teams advance Round 1: 32 teams divided in groups of 2. Winner advance Round 2: 16 teams divided in groups of 2. Winner advance Round 3: 8 teams divided in groups of 2. Winner advance Round 4: 4 teams divided in groups of 2. Winner advance Final round: Winners from round 4 play for champion. Losers from round 4 play for bronze. The format used for CSC 2012 can be seen here When there is a tie both teams advance and they will be added to a group in the next round, so groups may contain more players than planned. If all teams would advance in a round the round will be played over again (not too unlikely in round 4). If there is a tie on the final round both will be considered winners. Rule changes: The limit to maximum 4 games/round for each team has been added. If groups contains 2 or 3 teams there will be 2 games/opponent and if a group contains 4 or 5 teams there will be 1 game/opponent. No groups will be planned with more than 3 teams, so this will not often make a difference. The main contact for teams is allowed to be an admin and not necessary a super admin for the group. Both main and alternate contact is still required though. The pairings for round 4 (semi-finals) will be played with the highest rated against the lowest rated. This is different from the pairings in other round to make it less chance for drawn matches.
My first season of this tournament is now in its grand final stages and I would like to thank all or any of you that have participated in this. Just to let you know I will be opening up registration for season 2 of this competition after the New Year with a view to maybe starting it (again) around Valentines Day (February 14th) Agreed it may not be on that date as I will need to wait till this Grand Final game is completed so we have a winner for season 1 but still. Anyone interested? I am happy for you to put your name forward in this forum and I will give first refusal to anyone interested for next year :) http://www.chess.com/groups/forumview/valentines-cup-grand-final So that those who may want to can track the Grand Final game :)

Does your team review the opponent's archived comments when your VC game is completed?

All discussion on cheating should be held in the Cheating Forum. I'm not going against that policy here, so if anyone wants to discuss cheating in vote chess I recommend starting a new thread there. This forum will have links to vote chess cheating discussions. Cheating in vote chess? (engine user) Cheating in vote chess (engine user) Cheating?? in Vote Chess (multiple accounts) some correspondence concerning joeydvivre (engine user) I know there has been a lot of other discussions of cheating in vote chess, but I didn't bother to search a lot. If you know any more interesting discussion or make a new thread in the cheating forum about cheating in vote chess you may post the link in this forum and I will update the list.
