I hope this means that good sportsmanship is not going out of style. One of the things that means most to me concerning chess is the level of sportsmanship involved. When you're involved with a game with someone (either stronger than or not as strong) it's a matter of respect for their level of expertise to acknowledge it by congratulate them by saying "good game" whether it comes out as "gg" or not. gg could also mean " got guts?"
