--- During this Winter the HOF will have an exhibit dedicated to Jacqueline Piatigorsky ( Patron, Player & Pioneer ). Should be of interest to Fischer fans as well.

Did you know that the canonized King Louis IX (1214-1270) of France  was the origin of many places with the namesake of Saint Louis, and was given by early French explorers to the jewel of the Mississippi.(why the city was never renamed Budweiser is still a mystery to me) Now if anyone can give evidence that St. Louis also played chess, or is the patron saint of chess!!

An interesting fact about St.Louis ( from my pals at F & W ) is that the Olympics were held there in 1904. Hey you learn something new every day !

TKACHS

The Olympic Games of 1904 were held concurrent with the World's Fair in St. Louis. With 580 of the 650 athletes being from USA, it was dubbed a mere sideshow of the Expo, and was considered a low point in the Olympic movement. The following games in Athens got the Summer Olympics rolling again!

Back in September the St.Louis Chess and Scholastic Center played host to the inaugural Sinquefield Cup. With a prize pool of $ 170,000 dollars and players like Carlsen, Aronian and Kamsky this event was quite a feather in the cap of the Chess scene in St.Louis ( info from Chess Life ).

In most cases I like to thank the person who takes the time to leave a post but in your case I have a question. Why bother to read a thread if you do not like the info that is in the thread ???
