I HIT PUZZLES 1800!

After an extremely long time, I finally managed to hit 1800 in Puzzles. 
..... Even though I’m “1000” rated - I’m severely underrated lol.

Solving puzzles does help your ratings. I also have an 1800 rating on Puzzles. I have recently learned that it is better to take your time when doing these puzzles since although they are timed even if you take a loong time you get a least  five points.  Also taking your time increases your skill in solving these puzzles and in seeing the tactics on the board when actually playing.

Sometimes one of the more difficult things with the puzzles is figuring out what the goal is.  I've wasted time look for a mating attack when winning a piece was the goal, and I've missed some by winning a piece when winning a more valuable piece (or mate) was the goal.  Knowing that there is something to look for is more than half the battle, so the puzzle rating is inflated above your playing strength (inflated by more than 600 points for me).  I am guessing that if you spring for a membership then your rating can go up faster.

Knowing what your goal is exactly makes the task much easier . 

Personally when looking at a puzzle the first thing I try to figure out is if there's any forced sequence that starts with a check. Because at my level puzzles are relatively easier.
