Many people become more toxic online but it seems that the chess.com rating system has given higher rated players a way to justify their crass behavior.

Yes and lower rated players a way to justify their victimhood mentality.

Weaker players have every right to post , what ever they wish to post , and if the egotistical higher rated players don’t like it , then it’s time they stopped whining, and shoved their egos up their backside.

Nice

It's really the same as it is everywhere else. people feel entitled, they are brought up this way and prosperity doesn't exactly help with such attitude. It is actually in the shade of prosperity where boredom gives birth to such silly ideas such as linking the latest run-of-the-mill social concept - in this case toxicity - with the fact that some people like to call others out on topic related nonsense such as their caveman chess insights.

Humans suck at chess. It's just that Magnus sucks a bit less than the rest of us. So if you want to further discuss toxicity in the chess community, look no further. There's nothing more deadly to your chess improvement than ignoring this very fact.

Did I mention you suck? As a wise man once said, there's good and there's not good. You are not good at chess.

The Whole Point Of Chess Is To Enjoy THE FUN THAT IT IS .

You all suck at life. The more successful people are less sucky than you.

I haven't seen this posted much anywhere else but I think it needs to be noted:

I've been playing chess for about a year and a half. Starting at like a 700 rating and I'd say I'm around 1250 now and still climbing  (this account is new, so its around 1175)

However, this entire time over all my accounts, every time I attempt to jump into the forums and start some fun chess discussion with others I am immediately shown why chess gatekeeping is such a meme.

The amount of sheer toxicity in these forums rivals any other game I've ever played online. People use their rating like some kind of social credit system, interjecting every opportunity they get to flaunt it.

Beginners and intermediates can barely ask questions without being attacked for their skill or mistakes. As far as I'm concerned this is the absolute worst community I've ever seen and I wish it wasn't because I love chess.

To be honest, there's a lot of people like that around here. It's important to pay attention to the Pros, and not the Cons. There are many supportive people that will help you in any need, so you just have to look past the toxic members. However, if you're going to enter the forums publicly, you have to prepare for any toxicity.

In all the forums I been part of over that past 25 yeas, this is one of the least "toxic."

I meant literally 25 years.  There were forums, even chess forums, long before chess.com existed.
