Ratings? Why not just enjoy the game with another human being? So what if you have better ratings or lower ratings...be humble and do your best! Win or Lose you played fairly and stretched your imagination to new possibilities. Get excited when you set a trap and your opponent blushes on the other side...take that, got cha...of course boast in private please...tell your parents your ratings if you must but please enjoy CHESS!

Ratings aren't all bad. In my last live game my opponent played sloppy off the bat and dropped a full queen (twice actually and I missed the first one). But he kept playing and find a little trap late. it was no problem so long as I saw the out, but if I'd let down my focus it would be mate in one. One thing I've been working to improve is keeping focus when I have a major advantage. I saw the trap, dealt with it, easy win. My reward was +11 rating. Three months ago I would have lost that game. It can be nice to see the fruit of one's efforts in the form of the rating points.
There's SO much toxicity, it can't be contained in 1 thread....now there's 2 threads..

it is toxic when you start but as you get to know everyone it becomes less toxic

I think the forum section is mostly swarmed by kids, minors, teens and preteens. They are generally like that. Bragging, thinking and claiming themselves as elites and what not . That's why I don't take forum of this site too seriously.
