Can someone tell clearly that "derailing" is allowed on this site or not?
Thread derailing is frowned upon on any internet forum.

"Women inspire us to great things and prevent us from achieving them"
Just i read this and my mind is thinking only about these words.....
Homer Simpson's version of that is:
"Beer. The cause... and solution... of all of life's problems."
"It is better to light a candle than curse the darkness"
“How far that little candle throws his beams! So shines a good deed in a weary world.”
Ratings? Why not just enjoy the game with another human being? So what if you have better ratings or lower ratings...be humble and do your best! Win or Lose you played fairly and stretched your imagination to new possibilities. Get excited when you set a trap and your opponent blushes on the other side...take that, got cha...of course boast in private please...tell your parents your ratings if you must but please enjoy CHESS!
Ratings aren't all bad. In my last live game my opponent played sloppy off the bat and dropped a full queen (twice actually and I missed the first one). But he kept playing and find a little trap late. it was no problem so long as I saw the out, but if I'd let down my focus it would be mate in one. One thing I've been working to improve is keeping focus when I have a major advantage. I saw the trap, dealt with it, easy win. My reward was +11 rating. Three months ago I would have lost that game. It can be nice to see the fruit of one's efforts in the form of the rating points.
There's SO much toxicity, it can't be contained in 1 thread....now there's 2 threads.. https://www.chess.com/forum/view/community/toxicity-in-chess-com
Is not only chess. Have you guys seen Twitter or Reddit? That's toxicity, and I'm not talking about the SOAD song.
I haven't seen this posted much anywhere else but I think it needs to be noted:
I've been playing chess for about a year and a half. Starting at like a 700 rating and I'd say I'm around 1250 now and still climbing (this account is new, so its around 1175)
However, this entire time over all my accounts, every time I attempt to jump into the forums and start some fun chess discussion with others I am immediately shown why chess gatekeeping is such a meme.
The amount of sheer toxicity in these forums rivals any other game I've ever played online. People use their rating like some kind of social credit system, interjecting every opportunity they get to flaunt it.
Beginners and intermediates can barely ask questions without being attacked for their skill or mistakes. As far as I'm concerned this is the absolute worst community I've ever seen and I wish it wasn't because I love chess.
Say so it ain't so!

it is toxic when you start but as you get to know everyone it becomes less toxic
However every site has toxicity
3 certainties in life:
1. Death
2. Taxes
3. Threads getting derailed.
