i always say ggwp

Yeah sometimes I just want to play chess and play nonstop blitz without stopping to type something for my opponent. Most of the time they have chat muted or speak a different language anyways.

You guys need to look at this thread of mine. It might change your mind . https://www.chess.com/forum/view/general/lets-appreciate-them

It just needs a click to say good game after a match. And I believe that does not necessarily mean you or your opponent played well. Its just a basic etiquette.

NilsIngemar

Etiquette in the US no longer exists.

I don't ever say "good game"

When I first started Chess a few months ago, I said Good Game or Thank You! to all of my opponents, and I quickly learned there are way too many self absorbed arrogant jerks with superiority complexes here to continue the courtesy. It’s honestly just easier to say nothing, as many will take sincere gestures in the worst possible way.

It is sad, really.

Don't care about there response. You must be just good from your end. Thats it.

Why is meaningless etiquette good?

Nkai20

I say "Fluffy" or "Don't Hurt the Camels"

canadian_rt

Unless it's in person I never say it, there's no point in creating confusion between if they're saying it sarcastically or not. If you played horrible and the person says gg, it feels like a taunt.

I don’t believe anyone over the age of 40 would ask this question. Etiquette is never meaningless. Back in the old days when people socialized face to face, etiquette was what kept people civil and out of fist fights.

I long for the days when I could punch a mouthy helmet-wearing window-licker square in their squawk box, without fear of imprisonment.

I am well over 40. Perhaps it is because I did not grow up with a silver spoon in my mouth that I do not value etiquette.

Nor do I see vast numbers of people in prisons because they fail to say 6tg.  Of course it also might be because I grew up in Southern California where people are a bit less stuffy than in other regions of the country.

No, that’s not it. Growing up in California explains it, though. I’m sorry you grew up without common courtesy. Life must be hard for you.

Well, not being well off does make life a bit more difficult that is true.  But as far as etiquette, as you pointed out most people are much like me. From that point of view I fit in just fine, you are the one upset, not me.

NilsIngemar

Dude, you don't get it.

LeonMh

if it was a good game, or if they played well I'll say it. if not I won't. like, even if they won because I played bad I won't say it because the win wasn't because they played well, but because I didn't. but I'll gladly say so if they did well. being polite isn't about the other person, per se but it's just is. it cost me nothing.

Nkai20

Different people, different customs. What is normal for some can be seen as weird or unpolite for others.

Don't hurt the camels, guys.

DreamscapeHorizons

A lot of people were complaining about it as if it were an insult.

It's just an opponent trying to be polite/friendly after a game. Whether they win, lose, or draw.

Nkai20

The wellbeing of a camel should never be considered an insult

LouStule

This is worse than ever these days!  Is everyone too busy or what?  I always TRY to say at least gg when I lose but a lot of players disable chat so they never get that.  As far as anyone ever typing it to me? Forget about it.

MorningGlory84

I disable chat because people are abusive.

Caffeineed
I really appreciate it when someone pummels me into oblivion and then tops it off with a snark dripping “gg”.
