Sup chess.com, my dad has a 1962 Austin Cox designed ALCOA chess set and he said he'd give it to me. I looked it up online and some listings for the set are going for $3750! Heres a link so you can see what it looks like and the price: http://www.1stdibs.com/furniture/more-furniture-collectibles/games/rare-aluminum-chess-set-austin-enterprises-alcoa-1962/id-f_449502/

This is more that a modern set ... it is the true art of design. VEry limited edition.

Have an 1962 anodized aluminum Austin set, board and display case.available. No more than 20 games played with it. Was a gift when I graduated from high shool and spent it's life display on the on the wall for it's artistic merit, in the teak case with the plexiglass cover. Have it listed on ebay and what I consider a very reasonable price, considering the very fine condition of the pieces. Richard Wachter. Here is the listing ...

Does anybody have any information about auctions/sales of this recently? I am looking for the complete set (set + board)

I have the 1962 set in incredibly phenomenal condition with the matching board in blue (it also came in green).

There are two other sets made of aluminum in later years.

I am in love with this set and it’s beauty. Mine is not “for sale”, BUT.....it could be bought.  I would part with it for $1700.  I’d rather have the set than less than that. There plenty of sets for less on eBay, Charish.com, 1stDibs.com, etc., but I’ve not seen any in the condition mine is and with the board in same condition.  I have plenty of pictures I can provide and can take more if desired.

I am considering listing on eBay, but at a higher price to cover for fees.

If it doesn’t sell, I will likely be relieved!

I have one for sale! Its a red board and selling it for a family friend who bought it from a gallery in Florida in the 60's.  I cant post links since I am a new member but if anyone is interested, let me know! Its currently listed on ebay.

The Austin Cox ALCOA is a beautiful piece of chess art. If you have the chance to acquire one, don’t hesitate!

Hi everyone!

My grandmother recently passed away and I found this Alcoa set at her house. All of the pieces came in the black box shown in the picture. Unfortunately, there was no board.

Does anyone have any idea what year this set is from? Any idea what the story with this set is? If not, where can I find out?

Or go here: https://imgur.com/a/rxFJLIB

Thanks in advance for the help! Feel free to email me typosruinjokes@gmail.com.

Thanks again!
