a beauty set found

Talking with an amateur chess player while having the morning coffe, he said that was owner of a 1950's set, of course I couldn't resist to see it and asked him to bring it to the coffe shop and ...yes... he did it happy.png. This is a special set for me because (I'm pretty sure) it was made a long time ago near where I live. I'm pretty sure it is an Indajesa set from 1950's. Sooo..here you are, enjoy it!

Love that bishops!

A queen is missing but, those that know me know that there is no problem...

Lovely! And … given your skills, I am confident - should you wish - that you could make a replica queen. 👍

That's very beautiful!

Some coincidence, I got a set like this from Spain and the black queen, while not missing, is made of plastic! I will post a photo later.

A beauty indeed, lovely patina!

I have the same chess set. I bought it at a flea market on Long Island (Baldwin) N.Y>, U.S.A. I have had this set for 45@ years. You are correct in identifying this set as an Indajesa from the 1950,s. The knights in more recent version,s are crude and ugly. I hope that you will be able to get a replacement for the missing queen.

Hi @jacmater, lovely photos and set, thanks for sharing. The other day I saw a post here showing a Chavet set and I saw that the carving of the knights are pretty similar. Do you know if Indajesa designs were inspired by designs from Chavet and France, considering the proximity to CAT?
This is the post that I'm mentioning: https://www.chess.com/forum/view/chess-equipment/post-youre-chess-sets?page=132The bulky eyes and some of the holes in the body are similar, so I'm not sure if there is some inspiration between them.

This was very funny, I saw this beautiful series of photos you took for us of your friend's pieces and looked at my set in comparison and found the black queen was plastic. I played with it several times before without taking notice, haha. So if you should really happen to get to work and turn a substitute black queen for your friend, if you like you can always turn two! wink.png It could be that these sets with the round bishops may all have kings~7,5cm, but your set looks finer (better finish) Is it also taller?

Here are two photos of mine:

Really nice set there. I hope you get much pleasure from owning such a gem.

Very nice indeed! Really drawn to the lighter side of the set. Nicely and elegantly aged. Thank you for sharing.

I'm so glad you like it. I'm going to make a queen and give it to my friend, let's see if I can replicate the patina of the original pieces, obviously I'll post on the thread.
@jtorrex, I don't know the information you're asking for but, if I'm not wrong, it seems to me that Indajesa manufactured the knights for tournerie Roz from Jura, the same area as Chavet and it's true that the knights are quite similar.
@powderdigit, well, I think you're ready to give it a go too!
@MCH818 , maybe @jtorrex is right and they both influenced each other, in any case happy about those influences!
@ungewitchtet very nice set! as beautiful as mine...well, as my friend set...happy.png.
your set is exactly the same as "mine" with the 7.5cm king.
@wits-end I completely agree with you, it has aged very well and that is what makes it special.

Well, finally my friend has found the queen in his house! therefore it was not lost and we were able to use the set in a family tournament.

I feel the same way @Wits-end. That’s the first thing I noticed. I bought a 90mm Ayres set recently and I just can’t get enough of the patina.

Yea I remember when you was into fake sun tans  MCH818 ! grinevilcrynervous

Very lovely chess set, and I also really like the board. I should be getting a custom made Jacques style board in the not too distant future.
