I was about to ask about your (or someone you know's) woodworking skills - a nice refinished vintage board is always striking. But I guess that's not an option.

You might also want to be aware of Rechapados-Ferrer boards....They are not solid wood but instead vernier particle wood board with a thin vernier playing surface. However the production quality is very good. I own one, which I am very pleased with. Notable is that the R-F boards were featured in the popular Netflix video series "Queen's Gambit" of a few years back...

Ive got my chess pieces sorted but I want a decent board for them. I dont want vinyl or that computer mouse stuff. I just want it to be wood. It doesn't even have to be high quality but something that looks good. House of Staunton want astronomical prices for their wooden boards. I don't need that quality of wood. Any suggestions? My budget for a board is £50
