Are DGT Timeless pieces too big for a 50mm (2") square board ?

Hey, I have a chessboard with 50mm (2”) squares and I’m considering getting the DGT Timeless wooden pieces but, on DGT’s website they recommend a square size of 55mm (”) for these pieces

Has anyone used the Timeless on a 2” board? Do they feel cramped or is it totally fine in practice? I’d like to hear/see from people who actually play with smth with this ratio

Thx

It's going to be a question of personal preference.

FIDE standard is that four pawns should fit in a square. That is not possible with the DGT set on a 50mm board and is presumably why they recommend a 55mm one.

Many players (most players on this board, I think) however prefer the alternative standard of two pawns per square. A set that passes this test should not feel crowded if the pieces are of relatively standard proportions. By my reckoning, two DGT pawns should fit comfortably in a 50mm square.

For my part, although I haven't played with the DGT set specifically, I would prefer to have pieces that size on a 50mm board.

Yes in tournaments 55mm but 50 fits nicely. All the examples I’ve seen look great. But an iPhone isn’t able to paste here.

When I'll get the set I will send a picture of it for others if anybody is wondering the same thing I did grin
