Chavet size 0

Is there anyone who has some pictures of size 0 chavet sets?  Especially those where the knight has no eyes nor manes.   If those actually exist.  Thank you!

SpanishStallion

I have 14 different types and sizes of weighted Henry Chavet sets: sizes: 3”, 3.5”, 3.75”, 4”.
I have never seen size zero. What size is it?

BrownishGerbil

A size 0 would be approximately 60mm king height and a 24mm base grin.png

I am afraid I do not have this size. I have never seen it. The rarest Chavet set as far as I know is size 3.75”.

I suppose not many people would have it, it's not really the kind of size collectors would look for.  I'm just curious how such a set would look like and how fine (or rough) the carvings on the knight would be

SpanishStallion

Here in England I have never seen size 0 but it might exist in France where Henry Chavet originally comes from. Henry Chavet has also been reproduced but not in 6cm king.

You can see it referenced in this post, apparently have been part of sets with folding boards etc.

I cannot open or upload files on my chess.com app. Can you send me the photos please.

Its this image uploaded by Walterbiensur:

So it does exist, however you cannot see any detail as such from the photo

This is a modern reproduction of Chavet and it must be available in some toy shops in France.

I have more of those size around 60mm/61mm but I haven't made pics of those, only  a few.

Nice pictures!  The detail on the knight is actually quite nice, they resemble their bigger counterparts alot more closely than expected!

A friend of mine sent me this picture yesterday of a set he has but the knight is completely different (he was wondering if it was a Chavet)

If the felting is original than it's not a Chavet because only the weighted ones are felted and the knight has "eyes'. Next to that, it looks like it's not Jura wood with it's characteristic swirly grains.

BrownishGerbil

Exactly, I have the impression from your pictures that the graining is even more pronounced in these smaller pieces than in the bigger ones.

I had serious doubts about the knight as well since the head is so different, but I'm not an expert of course.

The other pieces seem more finely made than the real ones tbh (forgive me for my blasphemy). Maybe because of another wood type?

This cannot be a chavet set from the look of the pieces.

BrownishGerbil

Love the set in your first picture though, I'm retracting what I said on being "more finely made"

In very small size like 6-7 cm the original Jaques look much more beautiful and classy than Chavet but whereas you may be able to buy a 6 cm Chavet set for less than $100 the same size from Jaques could cost even $1000 which is hardly affordable to anyone nowadays.

Dd you ever find where to buy a Chavet 0 or 1? I am looking for this size as well.

broomstuck

Here’s a size -1

I bought it from a UK seller on Etsy, together with the magnetic board on the pics. The pieces have small magnets glued on the bottoms.

broomstuck, your second photo posted is a classic.. immense pawn- beautiful horses- spinach bowl happy.png Did you post the big set before? Must be an all-time favourite knight, are they all that beautiful the four of them?
