Reti's book, Master of the Chess Board, isn't usually mentioned yet is one of my favorites! Great format and something in my head just tells me that Reti was a special kind of chess genius. . .

You will always be able to get a book on chess with openings, middle and end games that you have to play to learn them properly.
This book THE EIGHT is the best book to keep you entertained from the beginning to the end and you feel that you are in it.
It is about a search for a chess service that has mystical power. It has many of the old chess master in the novel.

That is the first book. It was written twenty years ago. She has a newer book that also follow this one. . . FIRE . . . Paperbacks sell at a very low price and they are also at the local library's. IMHO

Crazychessplaya

I enjoyed The Eight, but was discouraged from reading The Fire by many negative reviews. Can anyone recommend The Fire?

Hey Crazy:

I also was not impressed with the Fire. Did you notice that I didn't say how good that one was?

I haven't read any reviews I thought it was just me that didn't like it. I liked THE EIGHT so much, i always recommend it even to non chess players.

Crazychessplaya

Thumbs up for The Eight from me, too. I'll stay away from The Fire.

Thanks guys. I know there is not going to be one best chess book but I wanted to get some opinions so I know what I`m looking for.

To DENVERHIGH

I have actually read The Fire but I haven`t read The Eight. Personally I did not like it.

That`s just my opinion.

Thanks for your suggestions

I assure you that when you read The Eight it will hold you with wonder, humor and even a little chess.

I was entirely disappointed with THE FIRE,

but many times the writers can't follow up with another book as good as the first one.

RichColorado

This book will help you forever . . .
