I've had chessbase 12 for several years now and as long as I can remember the program will donate my engine to other users without my permission. It doesn't do it while I'm actively using the program but if I leave ChessBase open while my computer is in sleep mode it will automatically donate one of my engines for public use. When this happens my open position is overwritten and my computer's battery is drained.
At first I thought this was an individual problem because I couldn't find any setting that was permitting this to happen and there were no online forum posts about it that I could find. However, I have seen this problem occur to several other people and now I think it is much more common than I first supposed.
Has this happened to you?
It's a feature, not a bug. I don't own Chessbase but it sounds like your computer is part of the cloud. You are supposed to be able to turn it off if you want. Of course, you wouldn't benefit from it either. It's not supposed to overwrite your lines but it is supposed to keep you up on new developments.
You can read about what is going on here- https://chessbookreviews.wordpress.com/tag/chessbase/
It includes a review of a book on how to use Chessbase 12. It sounds like it would be helpful.
