The Sher-E-Punjab set is advertised as a luxury set. It's a beautiful set to be sure but CB's awful customer service disqualifies it from earning that classification. I'll never buy from them again.
CHESSBAZAAR negative review

I chose to just doggedly pursue my goal. A better way to go than blowing up. But thanks for the compliment.

Very good...I still try to be like that. Because of my temper I used to be the vanguard in my unit when there was trouble.

*drum roll please* After 5 months my replacement bishop has finally arrived!!! That might be a record, not sure but that's a looonnng time to wait for a replacement piece. It's in good shape. No dings or scrapes - it looks great! It's a bit light compared to my other bishop. I had asked for one with a weight of 64-65g or so to be close to the one I have (65g) but this one clocks in at 58g - could be better but I can live with that.
The CB replacement saga comes to an end. Yeaaa!

Great!
Was actually planning to buy a chess set as a gift from Chessbazaar. Do you guys think I should go through with it? I have other options but was leaning towards this one...

Properly cured/aged wood stocks depleted, carvers overloaded (and scared to go to work in some cases), 5 MONTHS to receive a replacement piece, customer service (and even responsiveness to communication) severely tilted toward "sucks"...hmm. Good luck with that.

I will likely do skydiving in the Himalayas before that happens.

Based on comments throughout this forum, if I really liked a set from CB best, I would still go for it. So far - based mostly on the comments and a bit on personal experience - most sellers in India seem to get mixed reviews. The exceptions appear to be The Chess Empire and Chess by India. I have not seen many, if any, recent negative reviews of these two companies. I bought a clearance set from CB and have not noticed any problems and delivery was relatively quick. Recent comments about the company are mixed. Many sound more like aggravation - bad communication and long delays (like @Brynmr) - than a total failure to ultimately get what was ordered.

A lot of the delay time getting my replacement bishop was due to India's snail mail being down. However unlike SC, CB refused to use DHL. I think CB showed poor customer service in this regard. Any replacements now from CB won't take 5 months. Probably a few weeks. All that said I'm pretty disappointed in the whole buying experience from both SC and CB though I do have 2 nice sets which is of course a pleasure.

So... which set you going for next and from where?
Ha! I'm not a collector like some of you. I don't have the money or the space to put them even if I did. My intention was to get one set. Something very nice so I purchased the Sher-E-Punjab set. Then I saw the Danum padauk set and said wow, I gotta own that but decided on the ebony version instead. Then I thought I gotta own the padauk side of the Danum set to complete that set but since I don't have much money I'll sell the Punjab set to finance the padauk half set. So it all depends on selling the Punjab set whether or not I'll buy something from SC again. Mandeep knows what a pain in the butt I can be so maybe he'll be extra vigilant.
