From my own experiences with C.B......They always woke up when I placed a negative review on this site......I had my share of issues and aggravation on quite a few occasions with C.B....but.... ultimately got it all cleared up.

Left quite a bad taste in my mouth.

@Axxe2020 when you have the chance, I would love to see pics of the Commemorative set's ebony wood grain in sunlight if possible. I know it's difficult to capture with a camera. Maybe with the ebonized and ebony pieces side by side. It must be stunning to see in-person. Congrats on the set! Errr.... SETS.

My (humble) Players Edition has become my favorite set to play/study with.

Note: Above pic is from Sinquefield 2019. What a killer GM line up.

@Axxe2020 It scks about your CB sets. I had to look up the 48 hour warranty on the site to be believed. And sure enough, there it was. Along with a chart to explain it all! Real shady of them to say Lifetime Warranty with tons of disclaimers.

Did you purchase with a credit card? Some cards double the warranty (up to a year) but that just makes it 96 hours. LOL Other credit cards straight up add a year to the warranty.

And if you start a separate thread on the forum calling out Chessbazaar negatively in the subject line. And put them on full blast. You might get a favorable response. Right now it's hidden within this thread. It's a really stupid way for them to act upon a customer issue but it has worked numerous times in the past with these chess equipment manufacturers. The official 48 hour warranty is there to discourage and turn down the vast majority of damage claims. And then there is this public forum, where if you raise a big stink, all of a sudden their attitude changes. "Just this once." Suuuuure....

Chessbazaar sets bought to date: 0

Guaranteed Chessbazaar sets bought in the future: 0

I have no time and less than no patience for stupidity such as theirs.

this picture does NOT do justice to the ebony striping AT ALL..  It is overcast this morning and relying on interior lighting which is a fail….

I will try to get some pics in direct sunlight (where the Ebony really takes flight!) later this week when I am off work.

as far as CB goes, I’m just done doing business with them…

I have had my share of experience with them as well.  Instead of doing a proper job and take Noj business model as a way to improve they are trying in desperation to cover their poor quality control and in some cases craftsmanship.

But hey guys, if you think this is isolated case we are kidding ourselves, it is as wide spread as I think it has ever been. I will be posting soon my chess board and pieces purchase with DGT and their authorized dealer Chess & Games Onine Shop Muba (chessgamesshop). I have never been treated so horribly in my entire life, not exaggerating.

FWIW, I think the CB warranty is not limited to 48 hours. In the United States at least, ambiguities in warranties, which are solely in the manufacturer's control, will be construed against the manufacturer. The 48-hour claim limit is reasonably interpreted to apply to goods damaged as part of the delivery process. In fact, it appears in a specific section of the warranty, entitled, "Received a damaged or wrong item."  The "damaged or wrong item" warranty should not be interpreted apply to the specific warranty for "Replacement Coverage," which is in a different section of CB's warranty. The latter warranty is described as a "lifetime warranty" and concerns manufacturing defects. The covered lifetime defects are defined to be "cracking and warping only." The warranty against cracking and warping is specifically stated to be "lifetime" and is not limited by when the defects first appear. It is a "limited" warranty because there are limitations that are specifically stated to the warranty. For example, one limitation stated is that CB may issue a credit if a replacement is no longer available. The fact that this warranty is not limited to two days is further evidenced by CB's statement that it may "periodically tweak styles of our products and cannot guarantee the exact replacement for any product after 1 year."

As far as I know CB does not manufacturer anything like TCE or SC. They are a retailer like HoS.

The reason I asked ,  seems to be dissimilar in the design of the shape of the king / Knight/ bishop / with the cheaper & higher set by HOS along with the ear of the knight tear.pngOr is it me ?

Perhaps CB hires independent contractors or does hire some artisan employees. Given the quality differences and the different prices charged for their products, I would be very surprised if TCE or SC produced for CB. Also, there are other producers in that region.

I don't know what's true and what's a lie anymore:

We at chessbazaar will be more than glad to make the chess set that you always wanted but could not find...

chessbazaar® is the largest chess manufacturer of Chess Pieces, Chess Boards, Chess Set Combos,...

You have 48 hours from the date the package is delivered to notify us that the item you received is faulty, damaged/tampered. If you have notified us within the specified time frame, we will ship the replacement item at the earliest. If you notify us after the time period has ended, chessbazaar® will not honor any damage item claims. Wrong items claim also must be made within 48 hours of delivery of the item.

Plus one to MCH's comment.

I can't believe C.B. or even H.O.S. actually make their own sets. That's totally OK with me,but these companies "must" make sure their outsourced vendors have quality control under wraps.

I'll bet that we forum members are like a zillionth of the customers these folks sell to....and.....I'd bet that many folks don't even complain if a piece has an issue.....They just want a wood set to play with and go from there.....Just an assumption, but quite plausible, imo.

Btw,I should mention that some people have had quite nice sets made by C.B. and are happy, with no issues.

I have purchased 12 sets from them.....Four had issues and I got rid of one, which I replaced with the same, far superior set from The Chess Store.Getting it all cleared up was a hassle, but it worked out OK......The hassles stunk though.

That being said,I did order a superlative and 'flawless" set from C.B. a while ago.....It was their Empire Staunton pieces.....I got them during a holiday discount period and was quite surprised to see not a hint of an issue or even the slightest mark on any of the pieces......so......They can turn out good work,to be fair to them.
