Hi everybody. I had an idea some times ago, I would like to share.

I decided to craft a magnetic travel chess set, using a Chavet No. 1 set.

The longest part was collecting magnets from cigarette paper packs. It's more complicated than buying them directly, because obviously I don't smoke, but I do like to recycle .
As soon as I had collected my 32 magnets, I started the real work.

First drill to the depth of the magnet, with a wood drill bit:

Put a small drop of wood glue, and insert the magnet.

Repet this operation 32 times tongue

Tu fais preuve d’une patience exceptionnelle, au delà de la perfection avec laquelle tu travailles aussi le cuir ! Bravo !

I used self-adhesive felt. It's not really felt, but it's thin, which is good for magnetic chess.

A test with a plastic and metal magnetic chessboard, conclusive:

For the next step,
my first idea was to try to find an old chess-board and glue some thin leather on top, but in the meantime, I found a better idea. More soon...
