DGT 3000 owners, does your clock make this strange sound when pressed?

I have looked a lot of YouTube videos of the DGT 3000 and though a lot of them they don't even press the paddles, in the videos that do I don't hear this sound. Whether the paddle is pressed hard or soft, fast or slow, the sound is audible. And it's only for one side that it's heard.

I asked DGT and the head of development himself claimed that all DGT 3000s do this when I contacted them. But that can't be true, it would be heard on videos people made and someone would have mentioned it in reviews and forums. Mine is brand new.

Mine makes a soft clicking noise on pressing the paddles and the sound is the same on either side.

The thing to bear in mind with DGT is that they'll tell you anything.

I hear a click like a microswitch being activated. Some microswitches are louder than others.

But it is very, very faint. Is that the sound you are talking about?

When the right and left paddle goes down I hear a very soft sort of click, the sound it seems it should make. But when the left paddle goes down there is also a chirp. It could be a squeak, but it definitely sounds like an electronic chirp or something.

In these videos there is no chirp at all:

It's loud enough that it can definitely be heard when playing a game. And annoyingly it only happens on one side, might be tolerable if it happened on both.

I just want to know if the head of development at DGT is telling the truth that it should sound like that, that all DGT 3000s sound like that, or if there is something wrong with this clock. It wasn't cheap and getting it replaced through retailer will take probably a month or two, so I wouldn't want to get it replaced if it's true that all DGT 3000s make this sound. Will probably refund it and get a Leap clock instead if so.

Chirping is the absolute WORST description you can give it.

I had to literally blow my eardrums out trying to convince myself there is NO chirping.

I do hear some sort of light rattling. Maybe it's from the buttons vibrating internally when you press it hard? There are switches behind the front panel.

I've seen the DGT 3000 levers. All it is is two magnets and a fulcrum like pivot in the middle.

GeorgeGoodnight

Maybe you have a small bird trapped inside.

I wonder if the plastic switch is tight on the fulcrum.

Decided to just refund it and use the free chess.com chess clock app instead. I'm never going to enter a tournament so I'll never actually need a physical or FIDE certified clock anyway. It's a shame because I did like this clock, but would rather have my money back than live with the chirping.

There you go, probably a wise decision. You hearing it is truly all that matters.

I used to buy used albums back in my college days and the guy who owned the record shop would take any used album back within 5 days, no questions asked (he went on the honor system). When I asked why he didn't play the album to make sure there really was something wrong with it he replied "If it doesn't play correctly on your equipment that is really all that matters."
