That would be a great solution!

Does anyone know what happens if you make the wrong opponent reply when using a DGT board? Do you get alerted somehow?

I can't be a beta tester, I hope it will work once I'm active in the forum ...
Abhyudit998

i followed the steps but still my laptop failed to recognize the board, any suggestion? Thanks

Posting in order to get one point to be able use chess.com Beta. I want to test my DGT Smart Board.

SirIvanhoe

Choose Settings and then All Settings and it should be the last item on the list.

Mara55

I am now beta tester.

I followed the steps. Installed DGT live chess software. Live play in Chess.com regocnizes now the board, but disconnects after a few seconds. Error message says that there is a failure with syncronization.

The connection between my board and laptop is OK since I can use the DGT Smart Board  with Fritz.

My Smart Board is USB-version. Windows 10 on my laptop. Crome browser. My connection to the internet may be slow, since it is mobile slow 4G network.

Any help available?

SirIvanhoe

I believe your guess that 4G speeds may not be enough bandwidth may be correct.

SirIvanhoe

There are a few prerequisites for this. Check this out for info: https://support.chess.com/article/328-how-do-i-join-the-beta

Mara55

Thx SirIvanhoe! I have had connection problems with usual internet play. Play over internet with DGT-board may require toi much bandwith. I check this. This may take some -propably long- time.

OldSwede. Connect to Chess.com using browser not app. In my opinion the options for settings are different. Browser shows more options.

SirIvanhoe

Check this requirement: "your account be at least 30 days old, and you must have 1 activity point on your account". As you are just on the doorstep of 30 days, this is no doubt one problem. Your option based on this requirement should show up within about 24 hours.

I'm using a DGT board with a bluetooth connection to my Mac via LiveChess and Chrome like described. I did a couple of tests by playing against a "computer". Everything seams to work fine. However, the transmission of a movement from the DGT board to chess.com takes sometimes 5 to 10 seconds, despite a fast internet connection.

I find great that you're trying to connect the DGT board to chess.com and I thank you for it!

But, currently due to this large latency, I'm not using it for live games.

Today and yesterday I did the same tests with a Windows computer instead of a Mac. There the latency is much smaller and constant (max 1-2 seconds).
On the Mac the latency is variable. Most of the time it is a the same level as on Windows (max 1-2 seconds). But, sometimes it raises up to 5 or even 10 seconds. I haven't yet found the root cause for these differences. I couldn't also identified if the issue is Chrome on Mac or LiveChess.
Does anybody have made the same experience on Mac?

Another post to qualify for beta testing, I hope...

I play with a 10 second increment to compensate. Problem solved.

gaston70

Adding an increment is unfortunately not really a solution. Since, the increment is not acting equally if one of players is using a DGT board and the other not.

Assume a 10min|10sec game with a constant thinking time of 20 seconds and a constant latency of 10 seconds. The remaining time on the clock for the DGT user would be after 10 moves around 06:40 ( = 10min - 10 x (30sec -10sec)). The other user playing directly on chess.com would have 08:20 on his clock ( = 10min - 10 x (20sec - 10sec)).

As a mentioned previously, the performance on Windows looks much better than on Mac, at least on my devices.

Please see my posts as report of experience and not as a complain ;-)
I fully understand that such a solution needs time to get mature.

Thanks for you effort!

Is there any way of getting an audio announcement of moves yet or do you still have the check the screen?

Sichess01

Is there any news on when this feature will finish beta testing?
