I may not be an expert at Chess....but....I'm beyond skilled at buying cheap(under $12 per bottle) wine!

This thread has to come to an end!!! It has forced me to order about 4 Soviet style sets of pieces from CB......You're killing my spare cash and forcing me to buy cheap wine -

Anybody can buy a bottle of expensive wine, but to buy a decent bottle of cheap wine ($12 or less) -- that takes talent. Most of what we drink is cheap wine. I'd rather bank the difference for chess sets!

I'll drink to that! Prost!

A vital life skill!

Thanks, DD. Once you start collecting, the hardest thing is imposing limits. I have areas in which I collect. Soviet and Russian sets. Eastern European sets. American sets. Latin American sets. Spanish, French Lardy, and German sets. Sets from Olympiads. Reproductions of classic English sets, originals where I can find a bargain. All the sets are in a Staunton style. Vintage Drueke boards.

Your project is fascinating. I have read your other posting on it. Please keep us posted.

Chuck,

That's a broad range of sets! How large is your collection these days? With my latest delivery I'm up to 21 sets (3" or larger). And I'm running out of room to store them all.

I should send some of you collectors a commission. You make me look good to my wife, whenever she tells me(often) that I'm going overboard.I'm up to "only" (yuk, yuk) 15 sets and two very fine boards.....I keep them in my acoustic guitar room(nicely humidified)which is the spare bedroom, given to me for my fun hobby stuff......I just bought quite a few sets from CB and am now wondering how i should store/display them.......What I've been doing, lately and because the room is small(the acoustics take precedence) is buying some nice wooden coffers at a local hobby store(cheap, but nice looking) and cutting out & scotch taping the historic  information and descriptions about each particular set on each  coffer's outside....Look quite nice.I'm currently storing each coffer on the shelves of the "one" wall unit in the room, but I'm going to need more space,so I'll probably get a small-ish shelving unit and place that in the double closet's outer area.....It should look pretty nice when finished,as the closet is shallow and wide,so with the sliding doors open it will really look good and save my space.....Folks,do me a favor and keep posting your stuff,as it gives me ammunition whenever I'm told I'm going oerboard. -happy.png

Impressive collection indeed! That's a lot of boxes with well crafted pieces inside. Enjoy them! I myself have 3 tournament size, wooden sets, one plastic set that someone gave to me and one wooden portable set that fits in the board it comes in. The portable one is cute and I take it with me on holidays, while the others see most of their use in the house. All of my sets are staunton still, but I've definitely been tempted by the many alternative styles that have come and gone on this forum. Very interesting stuff.

Lou, I honestly have no idea.

2Q, thanks, and you're very welcome. I'd consider only my Drueke boards to be collectible.

MT, I accept PayPal. Send my commissions to cgrau@comcast.net.

Chuck, that's a problem worth having? If I had my druthers (and the loose cash) there are about a dozen sets I'd purchase in a heartbeat. Three or four of which would be from NoJ, (and none from Cheesy Bizarre ).
