Part of the beauty of the game is the beauty of the pieces and the board.  I like the pieces you have with it!

Thanks, Bird. Those are House of Staunton British Chess Company reproductions. They did a very nice job with them.

Your first board looks a lot like mine, probably it is aspen too. Mine came with the plastic stiker though.

The last board is awesome, didn't knew they had a stamp to burn them like that... imagine how much that stamp will sell for, if it goes on e-bay today.

I've saved the best for last. My vintage 2.25" board. It has a gorgeous patina. It is marked by a beautiful etched Dreuke logo on the back. This really is my favorite board, and I have a few of them hanging around.

What a set-up: the board, the pieces, the clock, the table. Absolutely gorgeous!

Thanks, Up! The pieces are my House of Staunton British Chess Company reproduction with antiquing and a  4.0" king. I may have posted pictures of it on one of Goodknightmike's threads. The clock is a Koopman from 1960 and the Netherlands. Wonderful, fun clock that I've posted a separate thread about. The table was my wife's, but I refurbished it and sprayed on a new board on the insert. The Dreuke is resting on an alternate insert I cut out of 1/4" finish plywood and stained dark walnut to match the table as best as I could. I've posted its story on several threads.

Thanks, David! I'm sure you're right about the aspen. I think all three of my boards with the gold DRUEKE stamping use it. I feel the same way about that etching. Really, really nice. I just picked this board up on Ebay--2.25" boards don't often appear there.

I remember showing the Drueke design to some British GMs, and they thought the etched intersecting lines were distracting (as in they didn't like it). I love it myself. Doesn't distract me at all.

I'm with you!

Does anyone have any of the new boards made by Bill Drueke? Are they on par with the old ones?

Definite bucket list item!

Beautiful Drueke board and HOS set, cgrau.

Here is my 1974 Lardy Nice Olympiade Commemorative set on a circa 1978 Drueke board my chess buddy gave me to restore.  My question is whether to sand away the old polish (Pledge? Surprised) or just try to keep the patina and apply a protective coat of clear Briwax?

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks, Impractical. Awesome set up. The board looks great. I'd keep the patina. I'd just wipe it down with some Liquid Gold or Old English Scratch Cover. That will mask any scratches without ruining the patina.

I like OLd English myself, did this to my 1964 Drueke board and it came out looking great.

I've got a big Drueke board I want to sell. It's 26 in x 26 in with 2 3/4 in squares. It's new in the box....well it was until I opened it to take the photos. Can't find a "for sale" section here like I do for guitars and pocket knives, my other hobbies. So I need advice. I'm told it is kind of rare and might be worth something. Any advice on how, where, to sell it would be appreciated.

Here's the follow up pic of the Drueke board after restorative oil, with 1972 Lardy club size 4 1/4 " king chess set

Looks, great, Mark! Which product did you use on it?

I like your Lardy set, and it seems in pristine state, where did you get it?

Avatar of Impractical

I'll have to get back to you on the name of the restoration oil Dad has in his workshop, but I remember it was from Lowe's.  The board looks dark to me, and I am thinking about sanding and protecting it with clear Briwax.

I got the Lardy in Texas around 1982  Here what it says on the back of the box:  "__cerat du Monde des Lemecs Reykjavik 1972" (as best I can tell)
