Hey guys, recently got into chess here. Already loving it so much and having fun. Anyway, I was rummaging through an old container today and found what I believe to be a Drueke Players Choice Tournament Chessboard with simulated wood pieces. The pieces are weighted with a green felt bottom. The king is about 3 5/8th”. Please any help would be greatly appreciated

Excellent score!! Yes it's the Player's Choice set first used at the Open in Las Vegas back in the mid 1960's. The ad from a vintage U.S. chess magazine said they originally had 200 sets at that tournament and they were all purchased after it was over. I also have that board/box and it is very well made.

@Ronbo710 thank you sooo much. Unfortunately the only thing about it is it’s missing two black pawns. But other than that amazing set. If anyone has any info on maybe purchasing the missing pieces that would help.

Check ebay for Drueke pawns, shouldn’t be hard to find replacements.  Make sure they are the right size, this style was made in several sizes.

You're very welcome happy.png. These sets show up on ebay regularly. They were made out of VERY sturdy plastic (unlike the Windsor Castle sets of the same era) . Like stated above just make sure the King's are the same size as yours if you want to replace those pawns.

Lucky dog! Nice find! Not sure why The Queen's Gambit didn't use this set for the Vegas scene. Would have been a more fitting set for that time period. Anyways I came across a new take on this Iconic Classic American set. I call it the Mexican Drueke due to its design and where it was made.

I have a 23 inch Drueke board with a burned or etched dark logo on the back side. Does this date it somehow?

I believe the etched board logos came out in the '80's but not positive. Here's a link to a pic (near the bottom of the page) of one owned by Chuck. You might ask him ... https://www.chess.com/forum/view/chess-equipment/new-drueke-vs-vintage?page=3
