Count me in for one or two of those custom boards if he does a larger order!

2. Some of the flexpad boards have numerical notations in awkward angle, making them difficult to read.

Hope these issues are minor and can be addressed by Shelby.

Yeah, that's my issue, too. I love the walnut & maple board but the sideways numbers are a dealbreaker for me. 🤷‍♂️

I agree with the OP. I would love to see a thin mouse pad board in green and buff. Buff is a pale tan color, like boxwood pieces or lightly tanned leather. As is shown on the Dreueke board in the OP.

I have this board but it's only vinyl. I do like the colors better than Green and white. I also like the green border instead of a white color.

It’s funny...I never even noticed the sideways numbers on some of my boards. I guess I don’t use the numbers all that much!

That's really cool! That'd be perfect for playing games literally anywhere. Nice find!

Excellent!

Shelby, please take this as constructive criticism:

When printing notation on the sides, PLEASE do not make the numbers sideways. There's no need for such a big, heavy, clunky font. If possible, consider adding a thin subtle rule or something on the border. Even something as simple as a double rule. And I wouldn't mind a tiny printed, "Made in the USA." in the corner. Good luck!

Below is a Legend Products vinyl board. They got it right. But it's only available in vinyl.

@ShelbyLohrman If you stick to the design of my original post and original colors and make some with and without notation you should have an easy winner. I like the notation myself which was not on the original Drueke Linen Board.  Never argue with success. No one has come close to the original Drueke colors since they stopped making them.

Additionally, please keep all the notation letters in LOWER case.  This is not the case for the picture posted by Pawnerai.

Absolutely gorgeous Shelby. You know I'm getting a set! Haha. It's a must now.

Regarding Chapter 1: US Chess Federation’s Official Rules of Chess, Rule 3 (Initial Position) - diagram included for initial piece positions.

Anyone else thing it very strange (and incorrect) that the diagram shows algebraic notation labeling but it shows CAPITAL letters for the file designations, and that it is effectively standard in algebraic notation to use small letters (particularly due to one piece, the bishop, starting with an A through H letter)?

Shelby, Can't we order our own custom flex if we pre-pay and choose from the array of endless colors?  Can't you set something like that up on your site?

That would be a huge hit!! Also if the colors suck no one to blame but the person ordering it.

That red and black board is nice! It reminds me of my next door neighbor's plastic set when I was a little kid.

Ian?? Is that you?! We played chess and checkers on your parents' front stoop with a tattered red and black board. And burned ants with a magnifying glass. j/k. $200 custom wood boards are beautiful and all, but playing OTB on a red and black is just FUN  happy.png

Yes it is me! Haha! Good one... I do remember burning ants with a magnifying glass as a kid but I definitely never got to play chess with my neighbor as they didn't know how to play chess.

Now all it need are golden or yellow outlines and it truly would remind me of my childhood chessboard.

Tundra Mike,

Of course you can!  I am doing it for Pawnerai right now!  Here is the board I am doing for him.

Where can I experiment with the colors? I Want to get as close as I can to duplicate the old Drueke Linen Board which I have.

Mike,

Send me some pics so I can see what I can do for you.  Or heck, just post them here.

thanks

Message #1 of this thread that I posted the Drueke Linen Board of the '70s and 80's.  Never has been duplicated, I would like the standard letters and numbers. back then they did not offer it both ways, just no markings at all.
