Hello dear chess friends!

As a professional player and teacher I know very well how important is to study good examples of chess strategy and tactics. Not everybody can pay for the trainer help, but there are some good chess books or other literature which can help you to progress in chess. Here I can recommend you to study 4 chess books of GM V.Beim - the file you can download for free on website of Shareflare - http://shareflare.net/download/56422.56f07a47549b9c685b4137c896e2277f7/Chess_books_of_V.Beim.zip.html

I recommend you to add this site in favourites list because in the future I will inform you about other available books and training materials.

With best wishes, Viktor Gavrikov.

Are these special for-free digital training books by V. Beim?  ... Please tell me you aren't encouraging people to steal digital copies of "Dynamic Chess" and other V. Beim titles that are still in print.  You wouldn't encourage theft from a fellow GM, would you?

WARNING: to those of you who are unaware, shareflare holds malicious links that can get on your computer if you go there. I almost got one of them but my anti malware program protected me.

If I may ask, would you recommend the GM V.Beim books for a relative beginner?  I've known how to play chess all of my life, but very recently decided to get serious about it and study.  As such, I'm basically a clean slate.

I don't mind paying for books/apps, as long as they are helpful.  I've got a job and, while not rich, I don't have many vices that require money.  As such, the wife will let me spend some of our money on chess!

good for you! there's a wonderful website called ichess.net that if you sign up for the newsletter, you get sent free GM video courses from time to time. there are a lot of articles on this website and others about which books are the ones to buy so i would read those. just DO NOT go to that link in this thread. it's malicious.

Thanks much, tornado81.  I will definitely check out ichess.net, and am strongly considering upgrading my membership here.

I actually just bought two books, "Play Winning Chess" and "Winning Chess Tactics," both by Yasser Seirawan, and am hoping that they'll help me stop being a little less... handicapped in my playing.  I'll read them and post my impressions here!

Thank you!  Would you recommend these as good for people like me, that is people who know how to move the pieces and that's about it?

I am afraid that I do not know much more about these books than you can tell for yourself by looking at the reviews, but, for what it is worth, my guess is that, for the most part, the Beim books would be better for a bit later in your chess career. For those looking for suggestions, these are my usual ideas:

Simple Attacking Plans by Fred Wilson (2012)

Logical Chess: Move by Move by Irving Chernev (1957)

Winning Chess by Irving Chernev and Fred Reinfeld (1949)

Discovering Chess Openings by GM Johm Emms (2006)
