Apologies in advance for the daft question, but are you sure it's not naturally occurring in the wood? If it's not, it's probably seeped into the wood, and not merely superficial, and I wonder if you get rid of it in any other way than sanding the board and revarnishing it.

Thanks for taking the time to answer.

1) i do not think (?) Could it be possible that it appear long time after i bought it?

2) I already think of this, but it is a new chess board, and remade it give me bad in my stomach...

In the pictures I can’t see problem. If this is not very clear for you too, I will recommend to let it as it is.

By the way nice board.

I don't see any ghost. Just a wood pattern.

Beautiful board. I can see a darker area but it's really hard to tell if it's a blemish or a natural wood colour. Some of my boards have darker areas too but not as pronounced as yours I guess.

Alan Dewey could probably give some advice on how to fix, if a fix is even warranted. Try contacting him.

Thanks for your help,

Sadly, you can see it clearly in real...

it is the only chess board that i bought new (the 30 august last year) and the only one where i have this sort of "change of colour" ...
I certainly will not disturb Mr Dewey for this.

Thank you for your help.

It is really not a pattern at all. I realize his presence when i made pictures yesterday, most on times i must admit i live with not too much light...

Thank you

Really there is a trouble on it... i feel a bit sad with that.

I have a lot of chess sets, boards and clocks. I almost never try to change something on them. I regard everything as part of an item’s history, even in a modern item. I only tried to “fix” six in my first year as a chess collector, and I regret what I have done.

MySeTH: Are you saying that this shadow has developed since you bought the board last August? If so, it's most likely a natural process - wood is a live material - unless it's become unevenly exposed to natural light. By the way, I totally agree with the other posters on here: the board is beautiful. As there any chance you could take more photos without the pieces on the board?

Wait for the seller to get back to you ? if its a chess dealer ask him to send you a new board if you are unhappy with the wood marks that are now showing ? send him some photos tell him why ?

You can always pm Alan Dewey if it's a real pain for your eyes / stomach

Alan is very human !

Hi, is the wood natural or has it been antiqued to make it look different?  I would think if it is made out of natural wood it should not do that and the seller would replace it with no quarrel whatsoever. If it was made to look like that, stained to make it look old, I would hope they had that in the description but that also should be covered.  A few years back I did buy an antiqued set off of a seller which will remain nameless and I used to laugh because if I did not like the way it looked I would just store it for another 2 weeks and take it out and the color would change,. :-)   I am guessing my set was due to a poor finish.  Either way I think the seller would make good on it.  But I guess in the end it depends who sold it.  .

I would be more worried about the arrows and circles drawn in what appears to be black marker. They are for more distracting than the stains you refer to.
