How to become an unrated player to fide 2000 rated player in 3-4 years?

Hi all, I am a beginner in chess. I am unrated. I am targeting a fide rating of 2000 in the next 3-4 years. I read "Bobby Fischer teaches chess" book and am currently reading "Winning chess tactics" book by Seirwan. I found them good and at my level. I am planning to continue reading other "Winning chess" series books. I practice around 30 tactics per day on chess.com and am willing to spend around 2 hours per day on chess. I am also joining UT Austin Chess Club.

Can you please give me suggestions on how to achieve my target? I understand that there are many techniques to learn in chess, such as openings, tactics, strategies, end game theory, middle game planning etc., In what order should I master them, and what is the best way to master them?  How many fide rated tournaments do I need to attend per year to achieve my target?

I heard from many that "to become a good chess player, you ned remember many mates, tactics, and combinations". Is it true? What's the best way to do it?

Is my target aggressive? Do you suggest me to get training from a chess coach, or simply read books and practice on chess.com?

I saw your games, and you hung your queen on move 4. You obviously have just learned chess. I wouldn't think right away of reaching 2000 by reading books and stuff - instead, at the very very lowest level, I'd just play a lot, and just experience chess as a game more, and get a feel for it. You first goal should be to reach 1000 level.

I'm not telling you to give up, but simply look where you're going - a player who's just learned chess probably doesn't even know whether he/she likes the game that much.

This is nowhere near as ridiculous as Sohum's GM post though.

it depends on the person. some people learn chess significantly faster than others. don't set  targets for yourself and just try to improve as much as possible because if you don't reach a target you can get very disappointed and you may feel like such a failure you'll stop playing. so just go with the flow.

Playing longer games will help you improve much. As you get better play blitz games. Experience and seeing thousands of games will help you. Reading books as well will help you.

Read Sierwan's books and play chess, try to reach 1500-1600 from that information and practice. Pick openings that fit your style. When you hig 1500-1600 read the art of defense in chess and pawn structure by Andrew soltis. These will show you how much you need to know to hit 2000, I assume. And yes, keep studying tactics rigorously. 10001 winning chess combinations and sacrifices is a book that will take years to exhaust. I can't even solve some of their puzzles.

At your level I would suggest first studying tactics, and BASIC positional play as it pertains to the middle game; and don't fall into the trap of over studying openings and all opening theory. Remember BASICS first. Before buying a ton of books study the free advice on sites like here at chess.com, chesstempo.com, and chessbounty.com.   Hope you succeed. diamond.pngdiamond.pngdiamond.png
