Husaria vs Weigel? Help building a set

Hello guys! I don’t play chess so I’m quite clueless when it comes to set up, but my boyfriend loves chess and I would like to buy him a wooden chess set! The board is going to be the Husaria no. 6, but I’m still undecided for the pieces. Due to budget limitations (around 60$ cad for pieces) I rounded my choices to two options:

1. Staunton No. 6 Tournament Chess Pieces by Weigel

( I can’t post links, but it’s on Amazon!)

2.Husaria Staunton Tournament No. 6

(Also on Amazon)

I was wondering which of them is better? Husaria or Weigel? Husaria is also currently out of stock, so I don’t know if it’s worth waiting.

I was told to have a king size of at least 95 mm and a nice weight, so if you have any other recommendations, whether it’s sets or tips, please let me know!

Thank you so much!!

I am not familiar with either brand, but I would say they look comparable to ether other. Weigel looks fine to me. In terms of options, your budget is fine for plastic chess pieces and a wood board. It is rather limited if you want both a wood board and wood pieces. You can check out retailers like chesshouse.com and chessusa.com to see what they carry. The Staunton #6 is the same as the tournament standard. The board size will be based upon the square size of 2.125 to 2.25. The pieces will have a king with a 3.5" to 4.0" height and 1.6 to 1.8" base. You can use these parameters to search online for viable options.

Good luck!

I have to say, the Weigela is just ugly.

It is understandable you not knowing the pieces if you really don’t play.

Both of the sets you mention are not your standard playing style used.

Either of the sets sound67 linked to would be a lot better.  Good luck.

Here's an option as well.
