That's perfect mr. The One! Great pics!! Thanks!
Local finds

Awesome sets Michael! Also this photography area where you display your collection, is this your playing space as well? Or is chess photography also a big hobby of yours? I love how you've curated such a collection from local buys, alas here in BC there are not a ton of used chess sets that are selling for a reasonable price that are in good condition. People are asking over $100 for cheap worn out sets and $300+ for a basic set. It's much cheaper for me to buy new direct from India.
Yes photography is still huge passion of mine. I'm still experimenting and progressing. There is always improvement to be achieved, just like collecting chess...'there is still room for one more'

Got this for 5 euro, another ad where the owner didn't bother to display the set and just leave all the pieces in the box. Turns out a big size set, 90mm KH. Gotta say, since I've got those Romanian sets these ornamental sets are quite intriguing.

Michael!!! I just spat my morning coffee in surprise … a French Regency-style set for a fiver…. a wonderful find. It looks very similar to my repro but yours has additional lines carved in the stem. These taller sets are very interesting and again, noting that living in Europe/Eurasia, your and others ‘local finds’ are a dream for many off us in far off lands! Repro or not 5 euro is unbelievable. Well done sir!

Ok ok, I wasn't totally honest with you guys. It wasn't really 5 euro, there was 55mm board included although in bad shape. There I confess!
@mr Pow, I can see now why you like your Regency set, this style surely has something mesmerizing. The set I got is unweighted but surprisingly feels substantial in hands, I got similar feeling like my other Jura woods unweighted sets so I think this set is made from Jura woods.

Who needs a pawn to be promoted? This badas* pawn kicks the sh*t out of every pieces on the board!
It reminds of the old Joe Weider advertisements in the back the magazines. 🤣 you, the skinny kid (pawn) getting sand kicked in his face at the beach. Lol

I am mostly collecting antique sets, but from time to time I am tempted by a modern set, like in this case. If I am not mistaken, this should be a 141/2 Chavet set (king size 69 mm, felted, but unweighted) on a Chavet board.

That is sooo sweeet mr H! I have the same but not for chess, it's for jeu de dada. I like yours way way much better

While I am also called Michael, I've not been so fortunate in my local finds. Most of my sets come either from fleabay or India. I did get lucky on this one though. It's a HKU set from Switzerland with the box for 20. at a local flea market. (no board, of course) The king is 3.5 inches and it really is mint. The box serves as a hot bunk for my Knubble set, so it worked out really well.
Nice! Chavet sets always look just right.
