Oh ok, I see what did there! All both of you!
Local finds

While I could have listed this in the everyday chess sets thread, it was also a local find so here we go. Getting over the covid, I was at last able to haunt my local flea markets and had a bit of luck. On the bottom shelf of one of the booths was a stack of games like Sorry, Monopoly etc. etc. Beside them was a crappy yellow school box and something told me to go ahead and open it. Of course, I was expecting a lot of half melted crayons and a pair of blunt kiddie scissors but fate was with me. Inside were two sets of Parker Bros. boxwood sets from back in the day. A #670 which as far as I can find was from the 1940s. The other looks a little newer and is slightly larger. The 670 set is missing a white bishop but the other is complete. Some previous owner had done a horrible repair job on the box with nails so I had to pull them all, glue and clamp the best I could. After wiping around 60 or so years of filth off of them they turned out alright. These weren't weighted or felted and that infernal clacking sound was like the Chinese water torture, so a quick felt job and my new everyday set is updated once again. It fits the board better than everything else so far even though the rooks are too small for my liking. Not bad for three bucks and a little elbow grease.

Thanks...I had to put a drop of wood glue on all four knights, as they had come off of their pedestals. Probably from age and the heat in that giant metal flea market building over the years. The glue had just given up the ghost. There's no telling how many times I've walked right passed that box.

Methinks you scored that at a mere 3 bucks!
We ought to have a thread called...."Find Of The Week".
It was so pitiful laying there in that little box, it was really more of a rescue situation. I just couldn't leave it there. I didn't think it would turn out as well as it did. That rook shot shows what just a warm wet rag did for it. I think it's much happier now!

Ah right! I didn't connect the dots but I did sense kinda familiarity feeling. Just like the colored marble patterned Chavets, the colored ones hold up better than the white colored ones So is this one. Although the Chavets were battered and this one looks like it has been in the box for decades, I can see the finish on the Chavet was done better, like thicker layer.

That's a crazy nice dog face set T1CM!! Wow, can't lie I'm always impressed with these sets popping up.

Yes the color marbled Chavet sets... Maybe Lardy was experimenting with their own process after they say what Chavet did.

That makes lot of sense, after all they were neighbors, 'worked together' and were each other competitors.

I have collected few ornate pieces and this one is one of the most intriguing pieces of them. KH 70mm Italian set from unknown era.

I just have to share. I see what beautiful, high quality classic sets some people in the world can get for relatively little (especially @theonecalledmichael) and then I'd like to show you all how things go in my part of the world. I present to you examples 1 and 2.
Example 1: The overpriced drugstore set for $125
And example 2: The reduced price (formerly asking $150) broken and incomplete antique set for $100

@IBuildchess I feel your pain. We have to pay up when we are on this side of the pond. Michael and @WalterBiensur live in a treasure trove. There is not much we can do about it. However, we live where all the Drueke stuff is. It is not exactly the same as all of the Chavet, Lardy, and other sets over there, but it is still something.
I see what you did there...all three of you!
We luv you, man!
