Please tell us about the most useless chess software to ever grace your collection.

Probably M-chess... and old DOS-based program, circa 1995.

I simply didn't use it often enough to justify paying for it.

Kasparov's Gambit it crashed all the time and had a ton of bugs I could never get it to work on my computer.

Ha!  From the photo, I remember seeing ads for Kasparov's Gambit.  Never bought that one, though.  Maybe now I'm glad.  Smile

DOSBox is great. Ah, but how to get the software into my computer?  I still have the original diskettes, believe it or not, but I no longer have a 5 1/4 inch floppy drive.

Fritz 8 . Never could get it working right.     Perhaps the later ones are better, but I've been soured for years on any CB product.

Much happier with Shredder and Hiarcs.

I guess that is a problem!

This chessprogramming wiki link is cool. Larry Kaufman discusses the history of the program. It was buggy in early releases. There was a patch in '93. I don't know if the patch is still available. The engine in KG is very close to Socrates 3.0, which, although it doesn't have the fancy graphics of KG, can be found on Ed Schroder's site as abandonware (with Don Dailey's permission).
