My experience with Chess Bazaar

Customers need to practice caution with Chessbazaar’s products. From my own peronal experience and that of many others, the CB chess sets are full of faults and defects of all sorts. Some of these defects are visible such as hairline cracks, chips, disproportionate pieces: one knight’s head bigger than the other, one bishop shorter than the other or the base of one king smaller than the other. To see the hidden defects such as scuffs, some thin hairline cracks you would need a magnifying glass like the ones you have on your mobile phones. Besides, the weights of the pieces are so different, I bought a set from CB where the pawn was heavier than the queen! That is why Chessbazaar has even a large section for ‘imperfect chess sets’ in its website. The main trick CB has been using over many years are the everyday sale to allure the customers into buying their junk and they have been very successful so far thanks to the gullible chess addicts!

You've made your points clear about CB.  Now how about you stop spamming the forums with your CB hate?

Ok, you're legit insane. Good to know.

Wow @Stauntonmaster, you should really go seek professional psychiatric help.

Why won;t you identify yourself? Who are you? You sound like a vendor and I would love to know who you are so I can avoid you like the plague.

@ cgrau: It must have been a pleasant experience working that closely with someone as good as Gregor. Like discussing chess with a grandmaster over a cup of tea. I've always liked the look of the dubrovnik sets he makes. Wish they were at the price point they were at 4 years ago though.

Hi Maik, Sorry I somehow missed this when you posted it. It was magnificent to work with Gregor, and my friend Phil. Your grandmaster analogy is a good one. Many thanks.

Today, I got this nice set of "1972 Fischer-Spassky Reykjavik" Stauntons from a company called royalchessmall.

Where did you go to order this?  These people have been out of business for months.  Their web site is down, and royalchessmall has had no available product on their eBay page for months now.  I want an admin to investigate this to make sure that needless traffic is not being driven to a place that no longer exists.  I want to see what products RCM has, but they appear to be out of business.  Please correct this misperception.  I would love to add RCM to my list of Indian chess makers/sellers for indian customers in a thread I'm creating RIGHT NOW.

FYI, RoyalChessMall is active on Etsy.

Good to hear the positive feedback @sound67.  The pictures of your sets say it all.  Beautiful.

I am waiting for my first purchase ever from chess bazaar.  My son ordered the 2014 Sinquefield cup set in Bud Rosewood and Boxwood 3.75" king for my fathers day present.

Ordered Tuesday (yes he is a bit of a procrastinator), already arrived in Denver today.  I should have it in a couple of days which would be only about a week transit time from New Delhi!

I will post pictures when it arrives.

Can someone please identify the white pieces shown on this page, just under the photo of all the Kings lined up and just above the Russian Zagreb set......I really like the look.

Btw,since I had been mentioned in an old post, about my original poor service from C.B.........It has definitely been cleared up to my "great satisfaction"! C.B. has come through with flying colors and it seems that their quality control has taken a nice bump upwards.

Best to all.

Since this is going to be my first ever nice quality wood set, does anyone do anything special to make the pieces look their best?  Furniture poliish?  Paste wax?  Or just leave them alone?

Which one did you buy? The link I posted beneath the photos is that very set that I bought.

I was wondering the same, but I think what he means is that he went for the ebony version and then decided it doesn't look as nice?  I like the ebony version.  Reinstate the order!

A friend posted a link and it was not as nice as the set here.I actually canceled the order and am pondering getting the one shown here....I wish your link was in English though.Stunning set.

Enjoy yours!

@sound67, What size squares are on that rosewood board of yours, and how do you feel about your larger sets (>4" king), on 2.25" squares?
