Another beautiful set to your collection! Congratz mister!
Oldset - Averbakh Repro

wow! I love this set. Nice photos, and now because of you I may have to order one (: congratulations!

Thanks gentlemen. I think I found the right home for this set . . .
Its a big set, I think the 2.25 inch squares fit it better than 55mm squares from the original pics. . .
Fantastic looking set! I completely agree Ted....Oldset is amongst the finest sellers of "high quality" sets and seems to just have a knack for consistency.
I bought his 19th Century Soviet Alekhine pieces a little over a year ago and the very first thing that came to mind was...."These are pretty much up there with NOJ".....I own an NOJ set too,so know of what I speak.
If the Oldset prices are anywhere close to those of last year, they are a bargain and a bit underpriced imo.
Good luck with that gem.
Hello everyone. I posted about wanting this set a while ago . . . I now have it in hand and wanted to give you guys the details. First of all, it was packaged perfectly. Each piece individually wrapped in foam and taped. Each piece arrived in PERFECT condition. Shapes and styles will always be up for debate, but 'finish quality' is pretty objective. Oldset is an absolute winner in my book. The pieces are all uniform, matching each other perfectly and finished without flaw. Many of us hold NOJ up as the premiere provider of chess piece quality, and you get no argument from me . . . I just want to say that this set makes me very confident in recomending Oldset pieces to anyone who is concerned with 'quality'.
Here are some pics, if anyone has any questions or wants to see more, pls just let me know. Following the pictures of the pieces is a picture of Averbakh playing with the set these are modeled after. Hope you all like . . .
The knight is impressive, asymmetrical carving, and excellent detail!!!
Some more pics . . .
Pawns matter a lot to me, I like how substantial these are in relationship to the other pieces...
Ruy Lopez from the white and black side . . .
