One benefit of weighted chess pieces on display

A 4.8 earth quake today in my parts of the Northeast U.S.A. and not a single piece of my displayed H.O.S. Tsarist Russian Chess Pieces were out of place. All still lined up, as though they were ready for war..... Me? I was "quaken up" out of a deep sleep!

Just sayin' wink

I hope all are ok. I’m
not sure weighted pieces would have mattered in Taiwan recently - awful stuff there too. Natural disasters, wars … makes chess and collecting pale to insignificance- ah but for helping to take our minds off more serious matters. I wish everyone well.

No major disasters here for a long time, but Portland is overdue for a quake. If you look at a map of Oregon, look at its northern border with Washington. The Columbia river is going along nicely moving east to west, when suddenly it takes a turn to the north, then eventually turns west again and runs fairly straight to the Pacific ocean. That little zig zag is due to a fault line, that runs south right under the city of Portland. It doesn't move very often, but apparently it is long overdue for a big shake. I'm rather glad I am out of Portland now, and moved to the other side of the hills west of Portland, and now happily reside in Beaverton, home of Nike and Intel, and way too expensive rents. I got all of the quakes I needed for a lifetime when I lived in southern Cali. I remember one morning when I was in junior high, my bed was shaking, water was sloshing out of the sides of my fishtank, and peeking out the window, I saw the street outside RIPPLING! I always thought asphalt was solid, but there it was rippling like water.

Should I mention that a few short years after we moved up to Portland, Mt. St. Helens blew up, just a few miles to the north of us? Had to wear a mask long before Covid, as I mowed the lawn every week and we had ash in our grass. I guess nowhere is entirely safe. I'm just glad you and your fine Tsarist pieces are safe. thumbup

Wow PDX my man! I've been through three myself....First one while on business in So. Cal. Bed shook and it felt like someone put in a buck for the vibrating feature.....I didn't bother to get up.

Second one, when my kids were tots....House shook and my wife & I thought they were running around down stairs, in the living room.....I'm a pro by now...Ha!

Glad you understood my thread, though true, was meant to be humorous.
