Sure, Mike, the site is called Nexus Gadgets. Here's the link:

Thanks Lou, I've been meaning to pick up this set. Looks like a great deal!

kenardi

oh man... you know those wooden pieces are just going to crack!  Laughing

i am kidding...

[EDIT]

oops, i was fooled at first glance... the pieces are plastic.  Whew, your safe...

That is an interesting set... do you own those Lou?

I dont see any seams... what i do see looks very faint.

UpcountryRain

My copy of the ubiquitous Drueke set on a folding Dal Negro board.

Ken, the ACE set has seams, but they're very faint. This set may still be on sale at American Chess Equipment for less than $15!!

The 4.25" Nexus set is seamless. It weighs in at a heafty 68 ounces, and  comes with a folding wooden storage board for $100 (link posted above).

You know Mike, those knights in your Guatemalan set do look like a South American breed of horse...

Really, I do like that set quite a bit.

Knights? I thought they were llamas! Wink

I meant the nexus set.. that is a very nice looking plastic set, 68 oz WOW!

I own a few of the Cavalier sets from ACE, very nice plastic, a few pieces seams worse than others, but mostly not too bad.

I do want a set of the Ultimate pieces... waiting for them to be available again.  I see this set at the coffee shops once in a while.

I use (bought for my son) the Marshall library size plastic chess pieces...

and the Walnut and Maplle Classic chess baord.  Both from HOS.

The board has 1 3/4 inch squares.  The king is 2 7/8 inches in height with a 1 3/8 inche base. Two pawns fit in a square diagnally perfectly.

It all looks very proportional.

UpcountryRain

EddieFreak, set 'em up! We'd like to see it. Bet it looks great.

Here are some quick shots of two sets I recently aquired.

First is the Play Magnus set I bought for my son.  The pieces are pretty awesome.  Nicely weighted (maybe half the weight of the HoS Marshall set?), decent tournament size, and seem to be based on the DGT Timeless/German Knight design with a pretty cool queen.  There are mold lines but they are barely visible.  One really nice feature is the felt on the bottom matches the color of the pieces, so it looks very clean.

Next is what Chesshouse calls Plastic Chess Pieces No 6.  I bought it from Chesshouse at the sametime I got the Play Magnus set.  These sets seem pretty common on German chess store sites, though I'm not sure if they are considered standard there or not.  These pieces are solid plastic, with a pretty simple design that I enjoy.  There are mold lines which are pretty pronounced if that bothers you.  I like the weight of this set quite a bit, it's a little lighter than the Play Magnus set but not by much.

Finally, here is a shot of the two black knights, lined up with the only other two plastic sets I have.  From left to right: Play Magnus, No 6, Basic Club, and HoS Marshall.

That is really a gorgeous board.

Good observation.  I like the big head pawns. A nice set for blitz

OK I took some pictures with my phone. FYI... I paid the standard price for the pieces ~$16.  The board was on closeout for $20. The last couple of pictures are for size comparion to my standard pieces on a standard baord.

ps I think I went overboard with the pictures... sorry!

That's a nice looking staunton set, curious where you got that one ?

EddieFreak

D2... My dad bought that set for me when I was around 8yrs old (~1977).  Don't know anything about it except that he got in NY and "it was very expensive" (been hearing that phrase since... well since I was 8yrs old!).

... unless your inquiring about the plastic pieces, those came from HOS.

stanhope13

Not sure.
