Well, here is a set of mine that I just love to play with…It is my Morphy Cooke 1849-50 - Antiqued Boxwood / Ebony - 3.5" King (StauntonCastle) set! It is just a great reproduction and plays well at the club. Staunton Castle just does an excellent job with their upper quality sets and I love to buy from them. Hope you enjoy them too…

Magnetic?

No, just a regular weighted 3.5” set. Why do you think it looks like a magnetic set? Never noticed it….

That's a great small set. I bought it a couple of years back, before the Staunton Castle price hike. I really don't appreciate their fake discount policy, that's why I switched to antique chess crafts for more recent purchases. Same quality, lower price.

Thanks for the heads up chessmaster_diamond, I will have to check them out. I love to find new chess stores to buy stuff from lol…

Yes, I enjoy them! The board and pieces look wonderful together! 👍

Thanks Powderdigit, I wasn’t too sure how the blue would look with most sets, but all in all they go pretty good with most of the sets I use on it.

Off topic: it's a shame that people are unfriendly and harsh towards each other here. We need tolerance and respect. Everyone has their own taste. Of course you can express your opinion, but without being venomous or making fun of people. Every person is different, every chess set is different. Live and let live!

Useless troll DesperateKingWalk blocked. I should rethink my support for Israel.

And you're not just a troll here, you're a troll ALL over this board.

Quoting function does not reproduce your twinkling smiley after "(..) Israel." One of the most mindless and numb uses I have ever seen. A post witlessly 'upped' by three people.

Looking at the discussion: 7 people, me among them, liked the prevision set by thumbs up. When desperate says it gets no validation here he means "from his majesty the kingwalk", as everybody knows, even though he is positive to be speaking for a majority of tournament chess players he believes he represents, again, as everybody knows.

The pics sent along to ridicule are in poor taste and self disqualifying, taking no interest in the history of modern chess sets mirroring in the prevision set.

But you, chessmaster diamond, are lashing out ad hominem repeatedly for no reason, and I believe no one is laughing.

@chessmaster_diamond You have chosen wisely.

Nothing is more entertaining then me criticizing a awful chess set. Then watching you guys throw a major wobbler. grin

@chessmaster_diamond ...because this shows intent with malice. For someone seeking malicious validation, and believes it's better than no validation, that's clinical.

It’s a beautiful board. Perhaps a tad restrictive on matching to some sets but a statement piece on its own - and for people like me that rotate sets and displays around different rooms in our home, I think it’s wonderful. 👍

I stopped collecting chess sets a while ago, but the "Prevision Chess Set", as advertised in a thread on this board, did catch my fanced - especielly consering its very modest price (Import fom Wisconsin US to Germany included within a week). A modernistic Staunton design. The pieces are very well balanced and weighted, and the mousepad board (Grand Prix Edition) isn't too shabby either.

For a modern day design the Prevision Chess Set , it's not a bad looking chess set , It's a shame it not made in wood .wink

chessmaster_diamond

Yeah, and too bad no more variations of the pieces are widely available. I understand you could order a specially customized 3d printed version from the original designer, I guess at a less economical price.

People looking for a best-value traditional plastic, tournament sized Staunton set I would always refer to the A&A Chess Set (https://www.chess.com/forum/view/chess-equipment/excellent-value-all-in-one-staunton-starter-kit-a-a-chess).

Wine? Looks more like a bistro than a pub... But hey, I´ll drink most anything.

Thanks everyone. A highlight of this game was when a young barman walked by the table and very quickly and accurately summed up the position of the match… my mate and I both joked that we thought it an older person’s game and he said his mates loved playing. Good stuff.

This is at a local (bar, brewery, pub, bistro) called Stomping Ground.

@Ninecastles - thanks for your question - this is a mystery set - but so I don’t hijack this thread with a Lardy discussion (see thread below) - I really like these pieces but I cannot be sure what they are!

You can not hijack this thread...it's a "Post your chess set" thread! So any set is o.k. Thanks for sharing.

Powderdigit
Yeah - sorry - what I meant was, that if we get into a deep discussion about Lardy’s that specific conversation may be better in Lardy thread but of course, whatever works - no drama.

Speaking of "Post your chess set"...I finally took some decent pictures of my newest set: An Original "1970 Fischer Spassky by Jacques of London. Again, it came in a stunning leatherwork and the suede base pads were made by Geoffrey Parker. I set up the game to a particular one...can you guess which one lol?....(It's soooo easy!)
