And idk if it’s normal but whyyy do the horses have googly eyesss

They look so dumb and funny at the same time 😂😂

Lol sorry I meant the knights I always call them horses because my mom plays Chinese mahjong instead of chess.

@yaocly I play Riichi Mahjong, Japanese mahjong. Yeah those cheap what I call Walmart specials sets are quite goofy. The good thing about them is they provide a nice small board for cheap. Get a much nicer wooden set and it improves 100%. Like I did with this Amazon cheap set.

That knight is hilarious. I love how the body is detailed but then the head is just squares with googly eyes lol.

It reminds me of this picture:

I have thought the same thing.  Shopping for a board with storage, the best deals are those combination sets that usually have really cheap pieces and a board that can be pretty nice.  Get rid of the simple pieces and replace them with a set you like and it works out better than trying to find a storage board on its own.

Yes, this is Hungarian set from 70's-80's made from some kind of plastic. Maybe bakelite.

Yeah, but think of all the exercise you'll get walking down to the other end of the table every time your opponent makes a move!

I'm having a great Christmas day! Hope you all are too. Unwrapped my Bucephalus set and board this morning!! I know I know, the squares are too small for the pieces but for now it's fine by me and besides, it gives me an excuse to buy another smaller set for this board and a larger board for this set next year happy.png. Here I just started following the Beth Harmon/Harry Beltic game from the Queen's Gambit. Fun!

Brynmr,

That's a beautiful set! I'm also a big fan of borderless chessboards as you can see from the picture below showing a 2.5", 2.375". 2.125" and 2" boards. I've since added a 2.25" borderless walnut and maple board to the collection just to cover all the bases.

The set might fit a bit snuggly on the board, but I find it more than acceptable for over the board play. And after the second move you'll be focusing on the game and not how the pieces fit the board!

Lou, I'm showing that picture of your board collection to my wife. wink.png

As your wife can probably surmise from the picture, I'm a bachelor!
