Post Your Chess Sets

Maybe I can change your mind. I received this set years ago as a Christmas present from a relative who knew I played. It's not the same 3D game played on the Starship Enterprise. In fact, I don't even know what its rules are. Maybe someday I'll learn but I'm really not that interested. The pieces are weighted and felted, though, even if they are too large for the boards. For a short while I used one of the boards alone as an analysis set.

I inherited this set from a grandfather who passed back in 1977. Someday I should get around to cleaning it. The pieces need re-felting but are in good shape otherwise. The box not so much. This is actually an decent set to play with because the pieces are easily recognized. I think the board is from an old Ganine Conquerer set I used to own. That set did not survive long with my younger brothers after I left home for college.

There is a thrift store nearby that I frequent because they have a large selection of DVDs at $2.00 each. A few weeks ago I saw this little game set. A couple weeks ago I couldn't resist buying it. I'll probably leave it in my vehicle so I have games anywhere. I'm not ready to tear it all apart yet so you'll just have to deal with it in this shape. (or not, I don't care)

That's a US penny on top. The boards are metal and the chess and checkers/backgammon pieces are magnetized.

Lego chess set I bought at the lego store and it is pretty decent, I don't have to worry about my opponent shaking the board to mess up the pieces because the pieces are stuck in place by protrusions on each square which hold it in place

Here's my Jaques club sized set. I've just put it on eBay, since I don't use it because I'm scared of damaging it

I don't expect to get the Buy-it-Now price! I'm a bit of a duffer on eBay and can't seem to list an item for auction without having to also set a Buy-it-Now price, so I set it high

Yep, that is a nice set, Matt. I looked to buy an old Jaques set once upon a time. Then I realized I'd feel the way you do about damage. I'm also growing tired of how much room the sets I have take up. I may sell a few someday just to get parts of my house back. I'm a professional class procrastinator, though, so that's not likely to happen soon.

Holy cow! You have an exquisite set! It would be a pity not to play with it but I can understand you worrying about it. Tough dilemma. If I may do a suggestion, play with it but put a baseball bat next to it and warn your opponent if he does something funky you will whack him with that bat.

That's exactly what I'd be like.

Might take it out to admire it very carefully but wouldn't be able to go much further than that.

I'd not be surprised to see Mr. Sound 67 add it next.Awaiting that post....ha.

I really like those Ganine gothic pieces.  they remind me of the Oompa Loompa's on Willy Wonka.
