Recommendations for a good high quality collection of games ?

I would like to know sources of good, high-quality games. Master level, if at all possible. I have a keen interest in Capablanca and Korchnoi, although any sufficiently large collection would do. If free, great ! If not, I would like to know the cost. A low rate of errors would be a high priority.  As I have not yet purhcased any db software besides Bookup/COW, format does not matter quite so much... still checking out Chessbase, and Aquarium looks rather interesting - obviously PGN would be nice, but not critical. Any ideas ?

I think there are a lot of good stuff to be found in this collection:

There used to be a neat (and free!) PGN-reader available called "ChessPad" in case you need a tool to work with the PGN-files.

Chessmaster has a good collection of famous games that have been played.

Good suggestion! It is amazing how much usefull stuff that is included in Chessmaster. In Sweden you can find the previous edition for peanuts.

Chessbase 9 and Chessbase 10.  However, its a huge bang to your wallet.

Is it good quality, though ? I have heard some people complain....

If you're cool with print stuff, check out these:

http://www.amazon.com/Zurich-International-Chess-Tournament-1953/dp/0486238008/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1239003336&sr=1-1

or

You could probably get both for around $30 after shipping.

Yeah, print is okay - I can enter them into the computer while reviewing/playing through them. Thanks !

I have 500 Master Games of Chess (Tartakover/DuMont) and it's given me many years of amusement and lessons.

Mammoth Book of the World's Greatest Chess Games (Burgess/Nunn/Emms) 112 games from old to recent.

You could also get megabase and use the search function in chessbase to pare down the games by restricting the players to a certain high rating. The older era players would be left out here but you'd never run out of games to play over, and you could always to a search on someone like Capablanca or Anderssen and pick from the list as you please.

I agree 100%. My copy has years since disintegrated, still the best chess book I've ever had.

I like 500 Games so much that I have considered buying the first (multi-volume hardback) editions.
